| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Latar Belakang: Serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang mengandung sitronelal dan geraniol yang berpotensi sebagai senyawa antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan minyak serai wangi menjadi suatu sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang memenuhi sifat fisik dan stabilitas fisik serta mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Metodologi: Sediaan gel hand sanitizer minyak serai wangi dibuat dengan variasi konsentrasi HPMC 1,25%, 1,5%, 1,75% dan 2%. Hasil uji organoleptis, pH, homogenitas dan Freeze-thaw dianalisis secara deskriptif. Uji viskositas, daya lekat dan daya sebar dianalisis menggunakan one way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji LSD. Formula terpilih diuji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi sumuran dbandingkan dengan kontrol negatif dan kontrol positif sediaan hand sanitizer yang ada di pasaran. Hasil Penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan variasi konsentrasi HPMC dapat meningkatkan viskositas dan daya lekat, tetapi menurunkan daya sebar gel hand sanitizer. Formula terpilih adalah gel dengan konsentrasi HPMC 1,75% merupakan formula yang stabil selama penyimpanan, memenuhi persyaratan sifat fisik dan stabilitas fisik sediaan gel, dan menghasilkan persentase daya hambat antibakteri terhadap S. aureus sebesar 58,33% dengan zona hambat sebesar 12 mm. Kesimpulan: Formula terpilih pada konsentrasi HPMC 1,75% memiliki kemampuan antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. | Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | Background: Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is one of the plants contain citronellal and geraniol which is potential as antibacterials compound. This research are aimed to formulate the citronella oil as the dosage of hand sanitizer gel that completely fulfill the physics character and the physics stability, also to find out antibacterials activity towards Staphylococcus aureus. Methodology: The dosage of Citronella oil as hand sanitizer gel was made by variations of HPMC concentration 1,25%, 1,5%, 1,75%, and 2%. The result of organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, and Freeze-thaw were examined in descriptive. Viscosity test, both adhesive and dispersive energy were examined using one way ANOVA and followed by LSD test. The selected formula was tested antibacterials activity used well diffusion method compared to negative and positive control of hand sanitizer dosage in markets. Result: The research result showed that variation increase of HPMC concentration can enhance the viscosity and the adhesive energy, nonetheless reduce the dispersive energy oh hand sanitizer gel. The selected formula was gel with HPMC concentration 1,75% is a stabil formula while in despository, completely fulfill the physics character and the physics stability the dosage of gel, and had antibacterials resistor energy to S. aureus 58,33% percent of inhibitory with 12 mm inhibition zone. Conclusion: The selected formula on HPMC concentration 1,75% had antibacterials ability to Staphylococcus aureus.
