Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui fitur-fitur tuturan linguistik yang diujarkan oleh pembicara wanita dan laki-laki pada acara The Oprah Winfrey Show, (2) menjelaskan fungsi dari setiap fitur yang diujarkan, dan (3) memaparkan perbedaan penggunaan fitur tuturan linguistik antara pembicara wanita dan laki-laki dalam acara The Oprah Winfrey Show. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan metode kualitatif dengan menerapkan teknik purposive sampling untuk menentukan sampel. Data dalam penelitian ini merupakan setiap ujaran yang mengandung fitur tuturan linguistik dari pembicara wanita, Kristen Stewart dan ujaran pembicara laki-laki, Taylor Lautner. Teori utama Robin Lakoff (1975) mengenai bahasa wanita digunakan dalam menganalisis data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 43 data yang mengandung 4 fitur tuturan linguistik pada ujaran pembicara wanita, diantaranya adalah lexical hedge, rising intonation on declarative, intensifiers dan emphatic stress. Sedangkan, terdapat 34 data yang mencakup 6 fitur tuturan linguistik pada ujaran pembicara laki-laki, diantaranya adalah lexical hedge, rising intonation on declarative, empty adjective, intensifiers, avoidance of strong swear words dan emphatic stress. Fungsi dari fitur tuturan linguistik ini adalah untuk menunjukkan ketidakpastian pembicara dan juga untuk menekankan makna ujaran. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, perbedaan penggunaan fitur tuturan linguistik oleh kedua pembicara ini dapat dilihat dari frekuensi penggunaan fitur tersebut dalam percakapan. Peneliti menyarankan bagi peneliti lain yang tertarik dalam bidang yang sama untuk memilih satu atau beberapa fitur linguistik yang dapat dikaji dalam percakapan nyata gender campuran atau mereka juga dapat meneliti bahasa wanita atau bahasa laki-laki saja. |

This research aims to (1) find out linguistic speech features used by female and male speakers on The Oprah Winfrey show, (2) explain the functions of the features used, and (3) describe the differences in the use of linguistic speech features between female and male speakers on The Oprah Winfrey show. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Purposive sampling is applied to take the sample. The data of this research are utterances which contain linguistic speech features by one female speaker, Kristen Stewart, and one male speaker, Taylor Lautner The main theory of Robin Lakoff (1975) about women’s language is used to analyze the data. The result shows that there are 43 data which contain 4 types of linguistic speech features found in the female speaker’s utterances. These features are lexical hedges/fillers, rising intonation on declarative, intensifiers and emphatic stress. Meanwhile, there are 34 data which contain 6 types of linguistic speech features found in the male speaker’s utterances. These features are lexical hedges/fillers, rising intonation on declaratives, empty adjectives, intensifiers, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress. The functions of these features are to reveal the speaker’s insecurity and to emphasize the utterances. Then, the differences of linguistic speech features used by both speakers can be seen from the use frequency of the features. The researcher suggests for future researchers interested in the same field to pick one or some features to be analyzed in real mixed-gender conversation or they could also examine women’s language or men’s language only. |
