| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | ABSTRAK Judul Penelitian “Reader Response on Racism against mulatto in Lawrence Hill’s So What Are You, Anyway? and Charles W. Chesnut’s Uncle Wellington’s Wives.” Penelitian ini adalah studi sastra yang menggunakan teori respon pembaca untuk menemukan pendapat serta pandangan para pembaca itu sendiri mengenai masalah rasisme terhadap mulatto dalam karya So What Are You, Anyway?oleh Lawrence Hill dan Uncle Wellington’s Wives oleh Charles W. Chesnutt.. isu ini sangat menarik untuk diteliti dalam rangka untuk mengetahui bagaimana pandangan orang – orang terhadap kondisi tersebut, juga untuk membuktikan apakah rasis itu adalah ketentuan manusia yang terwujud dalam bentuk genetic berdasarkan warna kulit atau hanyalah sebuah paradigma mengenai segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan warna kulit pasti juga berhubungan dengan isu rasis.. penelitian ini mengaplikasikan teori respon pembaca serta strukturalisme respon pembaca sebagai tinjauan pustaka. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang fokus terhadap para respon dari pembaca sebagai data primer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon – respon pembaca dalam karya So What Are You, Anyway? Oleh Lawrence Hill dan Uncle Wellington’s Wives oleh Charles W. Chesnutt. Sebagai pendukung, peneliti memasukkan data sepuluh responden atau pembaca mengenai isu rasis yang dikaji di dalam penelitian ini.. hasil menunjukkan bahwa para pembaca dapat menyimpulkan maksud di dalam karya serta alur dengan cara mengidentifikasi kode yang ada di dalam cerita. Berdasarkan kesepuluh respon, bisa disimpulkan adanya isu mengenai rasisme yang dapat dikaji lewat kode di dalam cerita dan tercermin oleh kata – kata yang digunakan sang penulis. Di dalam cerita So, What are You Anyway?,respon – respon pembaca menunjukkan bahwa penulis menggunakan kata – kata seperti what, race, and black doll untuk menangkap isu rasisme sementara di lain cerita, Uncle Wellington’s Wives, para pembaca mengidentifikasi kata - kata North, black man, and Negro sebagai kode mengenai isu rasisme. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | ABSTRACT The Title of The Study “Reader Response on Racism against mulatto in Lawrence Hill’s So What Are You, Anyway? and Charles W. Chesnut’s Uncle Wellington’s Wives.” This study is literature study whuch uses reader response study as the theory to find the readers' opinion and judgment about racism against mulatto in Lawrence Hill's So What Are You, Anyway? and Charless W. Chesnutt's Uncle Wellington Wives. This issue is very interesting to be dug in order to learn and see how other people judging these conditions, to proof that racism issue is about human faith determined by genetically skin colour or only about paradigm that anything related to skin colour should considered as racism. This research applies reader response's theory and structuralism reader response as the literature review. this study also applies descriptive qualitative method as the research method and concerns to the readers as the primary data. This research purposes to find out what the readers' response in Lawrence Hill's So What Are You, Anyway? and Charless W. Chesnutt's Uncle Wellington Wives. To support the study, the researcher involved 10 respondents, to give the responses of the issue talked in the study. The result of the study showed that the readers could conclude about the story and the plot by recognizing the codes in the story. Based on the responses of the ten respondents, the stories contained the racism and it could be found by using codes of the words used by the authors. In the story of So What Are You, Anyway?, the responses of the readers showed that the author used the word what, race, and black doll to capture the racism while in the story, Uncle Wellington Wives, the readers responded that the word North, black man, and negro as the codes of racism. |
