Penelitian yang berjudul “An Analysis of Linguistic Features Produced by Rebcecca Bloomwood in Confession of a Shopaholic movie” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis fitur linguistik dan fungsi dari fitur-fitur tersebut yang dihasilkan oleh Rebecca Bloomwood. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis ujaran-ujaran dari Rebecca Bloomwood yang muncul dalam film Confession of a Shopaholic dan merupakan data utama dalam penelitian ini. Data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan teori fitur linguistik oleh Robin Lakoff, yaitu: lexical hedges, tag questions, rising intonations, empty adjectives, precise color terms, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, superpolite forms, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress. Peneliti menggunakan beberapa langkah dalam menganalisis data. Langkah-langkah tersebut adalah mereduksi, menampilkan, dan menyimpulkan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 81 fitur linguistik yang diucapkan oleh Rebecca Bloomwood. Peneliti mengklasifikasikan fitur linguistik sebagai berikut: 25 lexical hedges, 3 tag questions, 7 rising intonations, 7 ‘empty’ adjectives, 16 intensifiers, 6 ‘superpolite forms, 8 avoidance of strong swear words, dan 9 ‘emphatic’ stress, namun tidak ditemukan hypercorrect grammar dan precise color terms di dalam data. Fitur linguistik yang sering muncul adalah Lexical Hedges dengan 25 tuturan. Pada umumnya, fungsi dari fitur linguistik yang digunakan oleh wanita adalah untuk menunjuk ketidakyakinan, kekurangan percaya diri ketika menyampaikan pendapatnya kepada orang lain serta untuk menghaluskan kata agar lebih sopan. The research entitled “An Analysis of Linguistic Features Produced by Rebcecca Bloomwood in Confession of a Shopaholic movie” was aimed to analyze the kinds of linguistic features and to describe those functions which occurred in the Confession of a Shopaholic’s movie produced by Rebecca Bloomwood. The research used qualitative method in analyzing the utterances produced by Rebecca Bloomwood in Confession of a Shopaholic movie as the main data of the research. The data were analyzed using theory of linguistic features by Robin Lakoff which include lexical hedges, tag questions, rising intonations, empty adjectives, precise color terms, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, superpolite forms, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress. In analyzing the data, the researcher took some steps. They were data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The result of the research shows that the researcher found 81 total utterances of linguistic features produced by Rebecca Bloomwood. The classifications are as follows: There are 25 utterances of lexical hedges, 3 utterances of tag questions, 7 utterances of rising intonations, 7 utterances of ‘empty’ adjectives, 16 utterances of intensifiers, 6 utterances of ‘superpolite’ forms, 8 utterances of avoidance strong swear words, and 9 utterances of ‘emphatic’ stress. However, hypercorrect grammar and precise color term are not found in the data. Thus, the linguistic feature which mostly occurs is lexical hedges with 25 utterances. In addition, the general functions of linguistic features that are used by women are to show the uncertainty, the lack of confidence when they share the opinion to others and also to soften their words to make it more polite.
