| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Komunikasi merupakan aspek penting. Dalam berkomunikasi, masyarakat diharapkan dapat menjadi rekan bicara yang kooperatif agar terjalin interaksi yang menguntungkan dan informatif. Terkadang pembicara hanya memberi asumsi pada sesuatu yang tidak sepenuhnya mereksa ketahui. Asumsi ini dapat disebut pembatas. Oleh karena ide pokok dalam penelitian ini yakni hedges. Pembatas dapat ditemukan di cerita pendek, novel, talk show, film, percakapan sehari-hari dan sebagainya. Kemudian, gagasan utama dalam penelitian ini yaitu “The Analysis of Hedges in the First Film of Twilight Saga Movie Series, “Twilight”. Data diperoleh dari film Twilight menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Populasi pada penelitian ini yakni seluruh ujaran pembatas yang terjadi dalam film Twilight, dan sempel merupakan beberapa ujaran pembatas yang menunjukkan bentuk dominan dari tiap tipe pembatas. Tipe dari penelitian ini yakni deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan dan teori Pragmatik. Pertama, data yang diperoleh di klasifikasikan ke dalam maksim Grice berdasarkan teori Yule. Kemudian, fungsi pembatas juga dianalisis berdasarkan teori Yule. Terakhir, makna tersirat dari pembatas dianalisis secara mendalam menggunakan teori Stalnaker. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa ada empat tipe pembatas yang terjadi dalam film Twilight; pembatas maksim kualitas, kuantitas, hubungan, dan tindakan. Selanjutnya, fungsi pembatas maksim kualitas yakni menunjukan bahwa ungkapan penutur tidak sepenuhnya tepat; fungsi pembatas maksim kuantitas yaitu memberikan informasi sebanyak yang diminta; fungsi pembatas maksim hubungan yaitu menandakan penambahan informasi tidak relevan, atau untutk menghentikan suatu percakapan; fungsi pembatas maksim tindakan yaitu menunjukan rasa hormat atau sopan santun. Sedangkan makna tersirat secara keseluruhan yakni mengenai perasaan bahagia, percaya, takut, dan juga mengenai hal-hal seperti meyakinkan, menghargai, menolak, dan menyindir. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya pengetahuan mengenai pragmatik khususnya pembatas. Kemudian, bagi peneliti yang hendak menganalisis pembatas diharapkan memilih teori pembatas lainnya untuk memperkaya pengetahuan mengenai fungsi pembatas. Pembaca juga diharapkan menggunakan pembatas ketika mereka tidak sepenuhnya mengetahui keakuratan suatu informasi. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | Communication is an important aspect in our life. In communicating, people are expected to be the cooperative conversational partners in order to make the benefiting or informative interaction. Sometimes, some people however just give an assumption on something they do not completely know. This assumption can be called as hedges. Therefore, the general concern of this research is hedges. Hedges can be found out in the short story, novel, talk show, movie, daily conversation etc. Therefore, the main concern of this research is “The Analysis of Hedges in the First Film of Twilight Saga Movie Series, “Twilight”. The data were collected from the movie entitled Twilight by using purposive sampling technique. The population of this research was all the utterances containing hedges in the movie, and the samples were the chosen utterances containing hedges which present the dominant form of type of each hedge. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The researcher applied qualitative method with Pragmatics approach and theory. Firstly, the data collected were classified into Grice’s maxim based on theory proposed by Yule. Then, the functions were also analyzed using Yule’s theory. Finally, the implied meanings were investigated deeply using Stalnaker’s theory. The result reveals there are four types of hedges occurred in the Twilight movie; hedges for maxim of quality, quantity, relation, and manner. Furthermore, the function of hedges for maxim of quality is to indicate what we are saying may not be completely accurate; the function of hedges for maxim of quantity is to give the right amount of information; the function of hedges for maxim of relation is to mark that an irrelevant information is going to be added, or to stop the conversation; the function of hedges for maxim of manner is to show respect or politeness. For the implied meanings mostly are about the feeling of happiness, faith, fear, and also about convincing, respecting, rejecting, and teasing allusion. The result of this research is expected to enrich the knowledge about pragmatics especially hedges. Furthermore, the other researchers who are interested in analyzing 2 hedges can choose the other theories dealing with hedges to enrich the function of hedges. Then, after reading this research, the readers can use hedges when they do not completely know the accurate information about something. |
