| Judul Artikel | ENGLISH SYLLABUSES OF MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT RELATED TO THE NEEDS OF MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT AND ITS STUDENTS AT FACULTY OF SCIENCE OF JENDERAL SOEDIRMAN UNIVERSITY |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Kesesuaian Silabus Bahasa Inggris Jurusan Ma-tematika dengan Kebutuhan Mahasiswa di Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Penge-tahuan Alam di Universitas Jenderal Soedirman” bertujuan untuk menganalisa si-labus Bahasa Inggris II yang digunakan di kelas tahun angkatan 2012 dan di kelas tahun angkatan 2014, dan bagaimana silabus-silabus tersebut sesuai dengan kebu-tuhan dari mahasiswa jurusan Matematika dan kepala jurusan Matematika. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisa data utama. Data diperoleh dengan cara interview dan pengulasan silabus Hasil menunjukkan bahwa silabus Bahasa Inggris II yang digunakan oleh kelas angkatan tahun 2012 sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa dan jurusannya. Sedangkan, ada ketidak-sesuaian antara kebutuhan mahasiswa akan Bahasa Inggris II dengan silabus Bahasa Inggris II di kelas tahun angkatan 2014. Mahasiswa dan jurusan mengharapkan pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk spesialisasi Matematika, se-dangkan kelas angkatan 2014 diajarkan Bahasa Inggris dasar. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ESP tidak diterapkan di kelas angkatan 2014 jurusan Matematika di Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. Dari hasil ini, penelitian ini sangat menyarankan para dosen yang akan segera mengajar Bahasa Inggris di bidang ilmu lain untuk meminta bimbingan profesional mengenai Bahasa Inggris bidang ilmu yang dikaji. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | The research entitled “English Syllabuses of Mathematics Department Related to the Needs of Mathematics Department’s Students at Faculty of Science of Jen-deral Soedirman University” aims to: (1) elaborate how English syllabuses meet the needs of Math Department’s students; (2) find out what English skills or com-petences does Math Department expect from Math graduates. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to analyse the main data. Data were collected through interview and syllabus review. The result of the research shows that the syllabus of English II in Class of 2012 matched the students’ and the department’s needs, which was to have English for Mathematics, in order to master Math terms in English. Meanwhile, there was mis-match between the students’ needs and the syllabus of English II in Class of 2014. The students and the department expect English for Mathematics, while English II in Class of 2014 taught basic to pre-intermediate English. This research shows that ESP was not really applied in Class of 2014 of Math-ematics Department at Jenderal Soedirman University. From this result, the re-searcher recommends the lecturers who are going to teach English in other fields besides English to ask for specific professional supervision in the field they are teaching.
