Pembimbing I: Tribuana Sari, M.Si., Pembimbing II: Aidatul Chusna, MA., Penguji: Mia Fitria A., M.A. Kata kunci: Pelacur, Abad Delapan Belas, Inggris, Slammerkin Penelitian yang berjudul“Prostitutes Life in Eighteenth-Century Englandas Reflected in Emma Donoghue’s Slammerkin”bertujuan untuk menjabarkan kehidupan parapelacur yang hidup di Inggris pada abad delapan belas yang tergambarkan pada novel tersebut.This study describes the life of the prostitutes in the eighteenth-century England depicted in the characters and events of the novel Slammerkin. Penelitian in imenggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif pada novel “Slammerkin” karya Emma Donoghue.Novel tersebut di analisis menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi.Terdapat beberapa langkah untuk memahami dan menganalisis novel tersebut dalam rangka menjawab rumusan masalah. Yang pertama adalah dengan menentukan objek untuk di analisis, yaitu novel Slammerkin, dan yang kedua adalah dengan menganalisis elemen intrinsik novel tersebut yang berupa narasi, kejadian, karakterisasi, dan dialog sebagai elemen yang paling dominan pada novel, untuk mendeskripsikan kehidupan para pelacur di Inggris pada abad delapan belas. Peneliti juga mengumpulkan latar belakang sejarah prostitusi di Inggris pada abad delapan belas.Yang ketiga, peneliti menganalisis data yang terkumpul dengan mengkorelasikannya dengan teori sosiologi sastra oleh Alan Swingewood, dan setelah itu peneliti bias menarik kesimpulan. Dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan, gambaran kehidupan para pelacur di Inggris pada abad delapan belas terdapat pada karakter Mary, Doll, dan para pelacur lainnya. Peneliti menemukan bahwa penyebab para wanita memutuskan untuk menjadi pelacur adalah mereka yang yatim piatu, atau ditelantarkan oleh keluarganya dan yang mengalami masalah keuangan. Sistem pelacuran membahas tentang para pelaku di bisnis prostitusi, lokasi prostitusi, pakaian par apelacur, fenomena Gin Craze dan penyakit kelamin. Selain itu terdapat usaha-usaha yang dilakukan dalam rangka memberantas prostitusi yang dilakukan oleh aparat, The Reformer Society, dan para dermawan. |

The research entitled“Prostitutes Life in Eighteenth-Century England as Reflected in Emma Donoghue’s Slammerkin”is aimed todescribe the life of the prostitutes in the eighteenth-century England depicted in the characters and events of the novel Slammerkin. In this research, qualitative method is used to analyze the data; the novel by Emma Donoghue with the title Slammerkin. The main Data of this study is the novel which is analyzed by using sociology approach. There are some steps in understanding and analyzing the novel in order to answer the research question. The first is determining the object to be analyzed, that is the novel Slammerkin and the second is obtaining the intrinsic elements of the novel, such as the narrations, events, characterization and the dialogues as the most dominant elements of the novel, to describe the life of the prostitutes in eighteenth-century England. The researcher also obtains the historical background of prostitution in eighteenth-century England. The third is analyzing the data by connecting them with sociology of literature by Alan Swingewood and the last step is concluding. From the research, the portrayal of the prostitutes life in eighteenth-century England is found in the character of Mary, Doll, and other fellow prostitutes. The research discovers the cause of the women who became prostitutes, which are being orphaned or desserted and financial problem. The system of prostitution discusses about the actors in the prostitution business, the venue of prostitution, the outfit of the prostitutes, gin craze phenomenon, and venereal diseases. There are efforts to eradicate prostitution conducted by the legal authority, the reformer society, and the philanthropist. |
