| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Subaltern Representation in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s The Girl from the Coast” bertujuan untuk menemukan representasi subaltern dan perspektif Jawa tentang submisifitas gadis pantai terhadap Bendoro dalam novel The Girl from the Coast karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Dalam penelitian ini, pendekatan poskolonial dan teori subaltern digunakan untuk meneliti novel The Girl from the Coast. kemudian analisis tersebut dujabarkan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Terdapat beberpa langkah dalam memeliti novel ini. Langkah pertama yaitu membaca novel The Girl from the Coast untuk memahami isi novel tersebut. Langkah kedua adalah mengidentifikasi teks yang berisi representasi subaltern. langkah terakhir adalah menjelaskan representasi subalterndan situasinya didukung oleh bukti-bukti yang ada di dalam novel. Berdasarkan analisis yand ada, penulis menemukan representasi subaltern. representasi tersebut ditemukan dalam dua bentuk yaitu submisifitas gadis pantai terhadap Bendoro. sedangkan, pandangan Jawa terhadap submisifitas terlihat dalam Serat Jatna Susila yang menjelaskan tentang peran perempuan, Serat Kandha Bumi yang menjelaskan Etika Jawa terutama tentang kesopanan. Maka dari itu, teori subaltern dan pandangan Jawa dicantumkan dalam hasil penelitian. |

Inggris) | The research entitled “Subaltern Representation in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s The Girl from the Coast” aims to find out the subaltern representation and Javanese Perspective on submissiveness of the girl from the coast to Bendoro in novel The Girl from the Coast written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This research uses postcolonial approach and subaltern theories. Furthermore, the analysis is arranged using descriptive qualitative method. There are several steps in analyzing this novel. First, the researcher reads the novel to understand the content and to collect the data. Second, the researcher identifies texts which have subaltern representations. The last step is that the researcher explains subaltern representation and the situations supported by many proofs in the novel. Based on the analysis, the researcher finds many representations of subaltern. The representation is the girl from the coast’s submissiveness to Bendoro. In other hand, the Javanese perspective on the submissiveness is seen in Serat Jatna Susila explaining the role of woman, and Serat Kandha Bumi explaining the Javanese ethic especially politeness.Thus, both subaltern theory and Javanese perspective are included in the result. |
