Kesopananadalahsebuahcara yang digunakanuntukmenunjukkankesadaranakandiri orang lain. Leech menjelaskanenambentukmaksimprinsipkesopananyaitumaksimkebijaksanaan,maksimkemurahan, maksimpersetujuan, maksimkerendahanhati, maksimpersetujuandanmaksimsimpati. Penggunaan maksimprinsipkesopananmerupakansalahsatuhal yang paling pentingdalamkomunikasi.Penggunaanmaksim–maksimprinsipkesopananinibiasmenyelamatkanprinsipkerjasamadarimasalah yang seriussehinggapesertatuturbisamenghindarikonfrontasisatudanlainya. Tujuandaripenelitianadalah (1) untukmengetahuijenismaksimprinsipkesopanan yang digunakanoleh Wallace terhadaptokoh lain (2) untukmengetahuijenis–jenismaksimprinsipkerjasama yang dilanggaroleh William Wallace saatdiamenggunakan maksimprinsipkesopanandalamujaranyadan (3)untukmengetahuibagaimanajenisstrategimaksimprinsipkesopanandigunakanoleh William Wallace. Penelitianinimenggunakanmetodepenelitiankualitatif.Populasi data merupakankeseluruhanujarandari William Wallacedalam film braveheart, sementarasampeldiambildarisebagianpopulasimenggunakanmetodepurposive sampling.Data tersebutdianalisismenggunakanteorimaksimprinsipkesopanandariteori Leech berkolaborasidenganpelanggaranmaksimprinsipkerjasamadariteori Grice. Hasilpenelitianmenunjukanbahwa karakter utama,William Wallace, menghasilkan 27 ujaran yang mengandung penggunaan maksim prinsip kesopananterhadaptokoh lain. Ujaran-ujaran tersebut terdiri dari 9 maksim kebijaksanaan, 3 maksim kemurahan hati/kedermawanan, 13 maksim persetujuan dan 2 maksim kerendahan hati.Pelanggaran maksim prinsip kerjasama yang muncul dalam ujaran William Wallace yang mengandung maksimprinsip kesopanan terdiri dari 9 maksim kuantitas, 2 maksim qualitas dan 4 maksim relevansi. Dengan demikian, pelanggaran maksim prinsip kerjasama tersebut di dalam ujaran Wallace biasanya dilakukan untuk menjaga kesopanan.Namun,tidaksemuapenggunaanmaksimprinsipkesopananterkaitdenganpelanggaranmaksimprinsip kerjasamadansebaliknya. |

M.A. Keywords: Cooperative Principle, Politeness, Maxim of Politeness Principle, the Violation of Cooperative Principle. Politeness is a means used to show awareness of another person face. Leech explained six forms of maxim of politeness principle that is tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim and sympathy maxim. The use of maxim of politeness principle is one of the most important things in communication. The use of these maxims of politeness principlecan rescue cooperative principle from serious trouble, so the participants are able to avoid the confrontation each other The purposes of this research are (1) to know the types of Maxim of Politeness Principle used by Wallace to other character (2) to know the kind of maxim of Cooperative Principle violated by William Wallace in his utterance and (3) to explain how types of maxim of politeness principle strategy used by William Wallace. This research applied the qualitative research method. The population of the data were the utterances of the main character ’William Wallace’ to other character in braveheart movie, while the sample was taken from the part of population by using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using Maxim of politeness principle theory by Leech theory in collaboration with the violation of cooperative principle. The result of the research showed that the main character ‘William Wallace, performs 27 utterance containing the use maxim of politeness principle to other. The utterances consist of 9 tact maxim, 3 generosity maxim, 13 approbation maxim and 2 modesty maxim.The violations of maxims of cooprative principle that appear in the utterance of Wallace containing maxim of politeness principle consist of 9 maxim of quantity, 2 maxim of quality, and 4 maxim of Relevance. Thus,the violations of cooperative principle in Wallace utterance are ussually done to keep maxim of politeness principle. Nonetheless, not all the use maxim of politeness principle is related to the violation of maxim of cooperative principle and vice versa. |
