Penelitian berjudul “The Effects of Global Warming Phenomenon towards American Society as Depicted in Michael Crichton’s State of Fear” bertujuan untuk menemukan dampak permasalahan lingkungan khususnya pemanasan global yang tergambar di dalam novel. Data utama dalam penelitian ini adalah novel State of Fear (2004) oleh Michael Crichton yang dianalisis dengan teori ecocriticism. Ecocriticism adalah teori yang fokus terhadap permasalahan lingkungan dan hubungan antara sastra dan alam. Teori ini digunakan untuk menganalisis dampak pemanasan global di masyarakat Amerika seperti yang tergambar dalam novel. Kemudian, dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan analisis, ditemukan bahwa ada beberapa dampak pemanasan global di beberapa aspek utama seperti lingkungan, ekonomi, politik dan sosial di masyarakat Amerika. Efek ini mengacu pada kerusakan dari bencanaalam, masalah ekonomi di bidang pertanian, industri dan pariwisata, krisis politik dan masalah kesehatan serta ekoterorism. Dampak ini merujuk pada hubungan antara manusia, alam dan lingkungan seperti yang tergambar di dalam novel. |

Keyword: Ecocriticism, Global Warming, Effects, Aspects, American Society The research entitled “The Effects of Global Warming Phenomenon towards American Society as Depicted in Michael Crichton’s State of Fear” is aimed to find out the effects of environmental problem especially global warming that described in the novel. The main data source is State of Fear (2004) by Michael Crichton which is analyzed through Ecocriticism. Ecocriticism is the theory which concern to the environmental issue and the relation between literature and nature. It is applied to analysis the effects of global warming in American society as illustrated in the novel. Then, the analysis is explained by using descriptive qualitative method. Based on the analysis, the research finding shows that there are many effects of global warming on the major aspects such as environmental, economical, political and social on American society. The effects leads to the damage of natural disaster, the economy problem in agriculture, industry and tourism, the political crisis and problem of health and ecoterrorism. The impact refers to the relation between human, nature and physical environment as illustrated in the novel. |
