| Judul Artikel | THE IMPACTS OF APOCALYPSE IN CORMAC MCCARTHY’S THE ROAD |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian berjudul “The Impact of Apocalypse in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road” ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kiamat di novel The Road karya Cormac McCarthy dan menjelaskan dampak dari kiamat terhadap manusia yang tercermin dalam novel. Analisis akan difokuskan pada ayah sebagai karakter utama dan juga seting novel. Dalam penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data yang merupakan dialog dari novel The Road karya Cormac McCarthy. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan teori ecocriticism, apocalypse, depression, dan violence. Adapun langkah-langkah yang dilakukan dalam menganalisis novel untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Membaca novel adalah langkah pertama sebelum menentukan topik. Peneliti menentukan objek yang akan dianalisis yaitu novel The Road karya McCarthy, kemudian memperoleh data dari narasi penggambaran seting atau kondisi, serta ucapan dari karakter utama yang dapat dilihat dalam dialog novel. Data tersebut dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu ilustrasi kiamat dan dampak dari kiamat. Peneliti menganalisis data dengan menggunakan teori ecocriticism oleh Greg Garrard dan Glen A. Cinta, tanda-tanda tentang kiamat oleh Guy Debord, dan juga referensi lainnya. Dari hasil analisis, terlihat bahwa perubahan iklim, kondisi kehidupan yang keras, dan matinya makhluk hidup, membuat manusia tetap dalam kondisi sulit di mana mereka harus memberikan usaha terbaik mereka untuk mendapatkan hasil terbaik. Selain itu, kiamat menyebabkan depresi dan kekerasan sebagai akibat dari peristiwa frustasi yang hadir dalam kondisi lingkungan manusia. Ayah dan anak yang berusaha untuk menjaga diri hidup sampai mereka mencapai selatan yang lebih baik bagi mereka. Dengan memahami alam dan lingkungan, manusia dapat membuat hidup mereka menjadi tempat yang lebih baik. |

Inggris) | The research entitled “The Impact of Apocalypse in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road” is aimed to illustrate apocalypse in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and to explain the impacts of apocalypse to human reflected in the novel. The analysis will be focused on the father as a main character and also the setting of the novel. In this research, descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data which are the dialogues of The Road novel by Cormac McCarthy. The primary data of this research, then, analyzed through ecocriticsim, apocalypse, depression, and violence theory. There are steps done in analyzing the novel as the answer of the research question. Reading novel comprehensively is the first step before determining the topic. The researcher determines the object which is going to be analyzed that is the novel McCarthy’s The Road, and then obtains the data which are the narration of the setting or condition, and the utterances of the main character that can be seen in the dialogues of the novel. Those data are classified into two, namely the illustration of apocalypse and the impacts of the apocalypse. The researcher analyzes the data by using ecocriticism theory by Greg Garrard and Glen A. Love, Guy Debord’s signs of apocalypse, and also other references. From the analysis, it is shown that climate change, hard life condition, and dead living things make human stay in hard condition where they should give their best effort to get the best achievement. Besides, the apocalypse results the depression and violence as the result of frustrating events that present in human environmental condition. The father and the son are trying to keep themselves alive until they reach south that is better place for them. By understanding the nature and the environment, human can make their living to be a better place. Keywords: Ecociriticism, Apocalypse, Depression, Violence |
