| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | ABSTRAK Kebebasan Pers merupakan salah satu ciri dari negara demokrasi. Pasal 28 Undang-Undang Dasar 1945 menyebutkan bahwa kemerdekaan berserikat, berkumpul, mengeluarkan pikiran dengan lisan dan tulisan dan sebagainya ditetapkan dengan Undang-Undang. Pasal 28 Undang-Undang Dasar 1945 menjadi landasan dibuatnya Undang-Undang Nomor 40 Tahun 1999 Tentang Pers. Salah satu fungsi Dewan Pers adalah menetapkan dan mengawasi Kode Etik Jurnalistik. Data Dewan Pers pada tahun 2012 menyebutkan terdapat 167 pengaduan terhadap pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik. Kode Etik Jurnalistik merupakan himpunan etika profesi kewartawanan. Dalam melaksanakan kegiatan jurnalistik, wartawan memiliki dan menaati Kode Etik Jurnalistik agar tidak menyalahgunakan profesi dan mendukung profesionalisme. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis fungsi kode etik dalam kegiatan jurnalistik, dan untuk menganalisis akibat pelanggaran kode etik jurnalistik. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Yuridis Normatif, dengan metode pendekatan perundang-undangan untuk menganalisis kode etik jurnalistik dalam perundang-undangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi kode etik antara lain untuk melindungi masyarakat dari malpraktik oleh praktisi yang kurang profesional, mendorong persaingan sehat antarpraktisi, sebagai bantuan dalam melindungi masyarakat dari ketidaketisan tampilan media, juga dapat melindungi pekerja media dari tekanan internal. Akibat atas adanya pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik yaitu munculnya pengaduan yang diajukan kepada Dewan Pers. Penilaian akhir atas terjadinya pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik dilakukan oleh Dewan Pers, sanksi atas pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik dilakukan oleh perusahaan pers dan atau organisasi wartawan. | Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | ABSTRACT Freedom of the Press is one of the characteristic of the democratic country. Under article 28 the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia states that the freedom of association and assembly, the freedom of thought expressed verbally or in writing and similar rights are to be determined by law. Article 28 of the 1945 Constitution considered as a foundation for Act Number 40 of 1999 about Press. One of the main functions of the Press Council is to establish and oversee the Journalistic Code of Ethics. The Press Council’s data in 2012 stated that there were 167 reports about violations of the Code of Ethics of Journalistic. The Journalistic Code of Ethics is a set of professional ethics of journalism. In their professional activities, all the journalists should commit themselves to Journalistic Code of Ethics in order to support the professionalism of their position and prevent violations of it. This study was conducted to analyze the function of the Code of Ethics in journalism activities, and to analyze the result of violation of journalistic as well. This type of research is normative juridical, with the statutory approach to analyze the journalistic code of ethics legislation. The results showed that the function code of ethics is to protect the public from malpractice by the lack of professional practitioners, encouraging healthy competition among practitioners, as an aid in protecting the public from the lack of proper in media displayed, it can also protect media workers from the internal pressure. The violation of the Code of Journalistic, will lead to complaints submitted to the Press Council. The final assessment of the occurrence of violations of the Code of Journalistic conducted by the Press Council, sanctions for violations of the Code of Ethics of Journalistic carried out by the Press Company and/or journalist organization.
