| Judul Artikel | THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING HANGMAN GAME IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY (An Experimental Study on the Fifth Grade Students in SDN Lomanis 1 Cilacap) |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini membahas efektifitas Hangman Game dalam meningkatkan kemampuan vocabulary siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) mencari tahu penguasaan vocabulary siswa-siswa kelas 5 SDN Lomanis 1 Cilacap, (2) menjelaskan cara penggunaan Hangman game untuk meningkatkan penguasaan vocabulary siswa, (3) mencari tahu keefektifan Hangman game dalam meningkatkan penguasaan vocabulary siswa, dan (4) mencari tahu pendapat siswa-siswa dan guru bahasa Inggris kelas 5 SDN Lomanis 1 Cilacap tentang Hangman game. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian eksperimental. Penelitian ini meneliti keefektifan penggunaan Hangman game dalam meningkatkan penguasaan vocabulary siswa-siswa kelas 5 SDN Lomanis 1 Cilacap. Data-data diperoleh dari pre-test, post-test, observasi, dan wawancara. Tes ujicoba diselenggarakan untuk mengukur reliabilitas dan validitas dari instrumen tes. IBM SPSS versi 19 digunakan sebagai alat untuk menghitung nilai reliabilitas, validitas, dan t-test. Pre-test dilakukan pada kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimental sebelum perlakuan diberikan. Hasilnya, rata-rata nilai siswa kelas kontrol adalah 64.6 dan rata-rata nilai siswa kelas eksperimental adalah 62.8. Setelah pre-test, siswa-siswa kelas eksperimental diberikan perlakuan dengan Hangman game, sedangkan kelas kontrol diajar menggunakan metode konvensional. Post-test diselenggarakan untuk mengetahui rata-rata nilai-nilai siswa setelah perlakuan diberikan. Hasilnya, rata-rata nilai siswa kelas kontrol adalah 70.9, sedangkan kelas eksperimental memperoleh 78.3. Penghitungan t-test menunjukkan nilai 1.772 yang terhitung lebih besar daripada nilai t-tabel critical value yaitu 1.706 (dk=26). Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa terdapat keefektifan signifikan dari penggunaan Hangman game. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research discusses about the effectiveness of Hangman Game in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The purposes of this research are (1) to find out the vocabulary mastery of the fifth year students in SDN Lomanis 1 Cilacap, (2) to explain how the Hangman game is applied in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery, (3) to find out the effectiveness of Hangman game in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery, and (4) to find out the opinions of the students and the teacher about Hangman game. This research belongs to an experimental study. It describes about a study that investigated the effectiveness of Hangman game in improving the fifth year students’ vocabulary mastery. The data were collected through pre-test, post-test, observation, and interview. Try out tests were held to investigate the reliability and validity of the test instruments. IBM SPSS version 19 was used to calculate the reliability, the validity, and t-test. Pre-test was administered to control and experimental groups before the treatment was given, in which the mean of the control group was 64.6 and the experimental group was 62.8. After the pre-test was given, the experimental group students were treated using the Hangman game, while the control group students were taught conventionally. Post-test was administered to investigate the average scores of the students after the treatment, in which the mean of the control group was 70.9 and the experimental group was 78.3. T-test calculation indicated that the t value was 1.772. It was higher than the critical value of the t-table which was 1.706 (df= 26), denoting that there was a significant effect on the use of the Hangman game in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery. |
