	Penelitian yang berjudul “The comparison of the witch in American myth and the witch in The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum” bertujuan untuk menganalisis cara Frank L. Baum dalam mendeskripsikan mitos tentang witch juga untuk mengetahui perbedaan dan persamaan mitos witch di The Wizard of Oz dengan mitos di Amerika.
	Dalam penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif diaplikasikan untuk menganalisis mitos penyihir dalam novel The Wizard of Oz karya Frank L. Baum. Sumber data utama dalam penelitian ini adalah novel The Wizard of Oz yang dianalisis dengan mitos, dan mitos penyihir dari beberapa ahli.
	Terdapat dua langkah dalam menganalisis data untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Langkah pertama adalah mengidentifikasikan dan menggelompokkan mitos- mitos witch yang digambarkan oleh Frank L. Baum dalam novelnya beserta karakterisasi dan kutipan dalam novel. Langkah kedua adalah membedakan mitos penyihir yang telah didapat dengan mitos asli American witch secara rinci berikut kutipan dalam novel, kemudian mengelaborasikannya dengan teori.
	Mitos witch yang diceritakan dalam The Wizard of Oz begitu jelas dan lengkap. Di novel Frank L. Baum menceritakan tentang wujub, kekuatan, dan karakteristik dari penyihir. Di novel yang ditulis Frank L. Baum juga menceritakan ada penyihir sebagai proantagonis dan antagonis. Beberapa penyihir ada yang baik dan yang lainnya jahat. Ini menunjukkan bahwa Frank L. Baum menceritakan mitos penyihir dalam The Wizard of Oz tetap berdasarkan pada mitos penyihir asli Amerika namun tetap menggunakan imajinasinya untuk menciptakan mitos penyihir di The Wizard of Oz sehingga terdapat persamaan dan perbedaan antara mitos penyihir di novel dengan mitos penyihir Amerika.

	The research entitled “The Wizard of Oz” purposes are to analyze Frank L. Baum way of describing the myth about witch and also to give an understanding about the differences and similarity between the witch in The Wizard of Oz and the witch in American myth.
	The qualitative method was applied in this research to analyze the witch myth in Frank L. Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. The main data source of this research is The Wizard of Oz novel which was analyzed myth, and witch myth from some experts.
	There are two steps in data analyzing to answer the research questions. The first step is identifying and classifying the witch myths described by Frank L. Baum in his novel including the characterizations and quotation on it. The next step is to compare the differences and similaritys the myth from the novel and the myth from the American myth including the quotations from the novel, the collaborate it with the theories.
	The witch myth in The Wizard of Oz is very detailed and clearly explained. In the novel, Frank L. Baum explained witch physical appearance, abilities, characteristic. The novel, by Frank L. Baum also described the witch as proanatagonis and antagonis. Some of the witches are good and other are evil. It shows that Frank L. Baum wrote the novel based on the myth about witch in the American myth combined with her imagination in order to create the similarity and differences between the real American myth from his The Wizard of Oz.
