Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan apology strategies dan apology response strategies yang di terapkan oleh karakter dalam video game Final Fantasy IX.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan teknik purposive sampling untuk mengambil data dengan proses menyeleksi data berdasarkan apa yang dibutuhkan dalam penelitian. Data pada penelitian ini adalah transkrip dialog dari karakter Final Fantasy IX video game console, sementara sampel dari penelitianini adalah beberapa ucapan sebagai piranti apology strategies dan apology response strategies yang terdapat dalam transkrip dialog tersebut.
Setelah melakukan analisis pada keseluruhan data, peneliti menemukan bahwa terdapat 3 jenis apology strategies yang digunakanoleh karakter Final Fantasy IX video game console, antara lain evasive strategies (minimizing, blaming someone else), indirect apologies (implicit acknowledgment, explicit explanation, implicit explanation),dan direct apologies (expression of regret, request for forgiveness).Apology strategies yang paling banyak digunakan oleh karakterFinal Fantasy IX adalah direct apologies karena pemohon maaf secepat mungkin mengungkapkan rasa bersalah dengan mengucapkan “maaf” atau ucapan yang lain untuk meredakan tingkat dari kesalahan.
	Kemudian dari skripsi ini ditemukan 4 jenis dari apology response strategy yang digunakan oleh karakter Final Fantasy IX video game console, antara lain acceptance (expressing emotion, absolution, dismissal, expression empathy), acknowledgment (absolution), evasion (questioning, deflecting, advice, expression emotion)danrejection (swearing). Apology response strategy yang paling banyakdigunakanolehkarakterFinal Fantasy IXadalah evasionkarenapihak yang mendapatpermohonanmaafsecarabaikdapatmenjauhkankeadaan yang membuattidaknyamanuntukkesalahan yang dibuatolehpemohonmaaf.
	Akhirnya, semoga penelitian ini dapat bermanfaat untuk peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik dalam mempelajari apology strategies dan peneliti dapat menganalisis dari sudut pandang yang berbeda dan dari sumber yang lain seperti drama, novel dan film.

The research was aimed at describing the apology strategies and the apology response strategies applied by the characters in video game of Final Fantasy IX.
	The method used in this research is qualitative method. The researcher used purposive sampling to take the sample in which the process of selecting sample based on the need of the research.The data of this research are the dialogue transcript of characters of Final Fantasy IX video game console, while the sample of this research are the utterances as the apology strategies and apology response strategies in the dialogue transcript.
After conducting the analysis, the researcher found that there 3 types of apology strategies used by the characters of Final Fantasy IX video game console, they are evasive strategies (minimizing, blaming someone else), indirect apologies (implicit acknowledgment, explicit explanation, implicit explanation), and direct apologies (expression of regret, request for forgiveness). The most apology strategy used  by Characters is direct apology because the apologizer as soon as possible shows the regret by saying “sorry” or another  utterance in order to mitigate the degree of the offence .
	Thus, this research found 4 types of apology response strategy used by characters of Final Fantasy IX video game console, they are acceptance (expressing emotion, absolution, dismissal, expression empathy), acknowledgment (absolution), evasion (questioning, deflecting, advice, expression emotion) and rejection (swearing). The most apology response strategies used by them is evasion because the interlocutor just cleverly avoids an unpleasant truth for the offence given by apologizer 
	Finally, hopefully this research can be useful for researchers who are interested in studying apologizing acts and they can analyze them from a different point view and from other data source such as drama, novel and movie.
