MODIFIKASI KITOSAN DENGAN KOBALT (II) DAN APLIKASINYA UNTUK MENURUNKAN KADAR ZAT WARNA METHYLENE BLUE

Zat warna dalam limbah cair industri tekstil merupakan salah satu pencemar lingkungan yang berbahaya, untuk itu diperlukan pengolahan limbah sebelum dibuang. Adsorpsi merupakan penanganan limbah yang efektif. Penenlitian tentang adsorption zat warna Methylene Blue telah dilakukan untuk mengkaji kemampuan kitosan yang telah dimodifikasi dengan kobalt (II) dalam menurunkan kadar zat warna Methylene Blue. Modifikasi kitosan-kobalt (II) dengan metode kopresipitasi. Identifikasi gugus fungsi kitosan dan kitosan-kobalt (II) menggunakan instrument FTIR. Proses adsorpsi menggunakan metode bacth yang meliputi variasi pH dan waktu kontak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rendemen kitosan-kobalt (II) yang telah disentesis yaitu sebesar 77,89% (b/b). Kitosan-kobalt (II) dapat mengadsorpsi kadar zat warna methylene Blue secara optimum pada pH 11 dan waktu kontak 45 menit. Kitosan-kobalt (II) mampu menurunkan kadar zat warna Methylene Blue sebesar 78,37%.

Dyes in textile industry wastewater is one of environmental pollution which is dangerous, therefore it is necessary to such process the waste before disposal. Adsorption method is effective for treatment of wastewater. Research on adsorption of Methylene Blue dye has been carried out to asses the ability of chitosan modified with cobalt (II) to reduce the concentration of Methylene Blue dye. Modification of chitosan with cobalt (II) had been performed using coprecipitation method. Identification of functional group for chitosan and chitosan-cobalt (II) was performed using FTIR. Adsorption process was carried out by bacth method included the variation of pH and contact time. The of adsorption analysis of Methylene Blue is using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The result of research showed that the rendemen of chitosan-cobalt (II) synthesized is 77,89 % (b/b). The optimum condition of Methylene Blue dye adsorption by chitosan-cobalt (II) was at pH of 11, and contact time of 45 minutes. The chitosan-cobalt (II) is able to reduce the concentration of the Methylene Blue up to 78,37%
