PERSUASIVE STRATEGIES PRODUCED BY FOUR MAIN CHARACTERS OF GLEE TV SERIES (SEASON ONE, EPISODE 9, 10, 11)

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan tipe-tipe speech act, strategi-strategi persuasif, serta hubungan antara speech act dan strategi persuasif dalam serial TV Glee yang dilakukan oleh keempat karakter utamannya dalam melakukan kegiatan persuasi. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah ujaran-ujaran dari keempat karakter dalam serial TV Glee, Berdasarkan analisis data, penulis menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kulitatif. Data dianalisis melalui teori speech act menurut Searle (1976) dan strategi persuasif menurut Simmons (1976). Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 143 ujaran yang terdiri dari representative (36 ujaran), directive (28 ujaran) commisive (21 ujaran), expressive (56 ujaran), and declarative (2 ujaran). Terdapat 47 ujaran yang termasuk dalam kategori strategi co active dan 20 ujaran yang termasuk dalam kategori strategi combative. Penulis menemukan bahwa untuk mencapai tujuan utama dari persuasi maka strategi- strategi persuasif dapat dijelaskan dengan baik melalui klasifikasi speech act yaitu, representative (29 ujaran), expressive (22 ujaran), directive (17 ujaran) dan commisive (14 ujaran).

The aims of the research are to find out the types of speech act, the persuasive strategies, and the relationship between speech act and persuasive strategies produced by four main characters of Glee TV series in persuading others. The source of the data is four main characters’ utterances of “Glee TV series”. The writer used descriptive qualitative approach. The data collected were analyzed through Speech act theory by Searle (1976) and Persuasive strategy by Simmos (1976). The findings of this study revealed that the characters perform 143 utterances which contain Speech act classifications. They are representative (36 utterances), directive (28 utterances) commisive (21 utterances), expressive (56 utterances), and declarative (2 utterances). There are 47 utterances of co active strategies and 20 utterances of combative strategies. Based on the data analysis, the writer found that in order to achieve the main purpose of persuasion, the persuasive strategies can be communicated with representative (29 utterances), expressive (22 utterances), directive (17 utterances), and commisive (14 utterances).
