Penelitian yang berjudul Masculinity in Romance: A Study on Sandra Brown Novels Entitled In A Class by Itself and Fanta C bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi maskulinitas dalam karya sastra roman. Dalam penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Sumber data utama dari penelitian ini adalah karya sastra roman milik Sandra Brown yang berjudul In A Class by Itself dan Fanta C yang dianalisis menggunakan teori gender yaitu mengenai isu maskulinitas. Data mengenai klasifikasi representati maskulinitas didasarkan pada karakteristik tokoh hero dalam dua konsep maskulinitas: konsep tradisional dan konsep moderen. Selain karakteristik hegemoni lelaki terhadap perempuan seperti power dan dominasi, kewajiban seorang lelaki mencari nafkah dan kekuatan fisik lelaki, tokoh hero juga merepresentasikan identitas pria baru yang muncul dalam konsep modern sebagai bentuk dukungan terhadap wanita seperti tugas lelaki dalam area domestik, kelembutan dan kepekaan seorang lelaki, hubungan interpersonal, penampilan fisik dan gaya konsumtif serta hedonis seorang lelaki.Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi sebuah media untuk menambah pemahaman tentang novel roman sebagai sebuah bentuk karya sastra dan menambah pengetahuan tentang teori gender, terutama mengenai konsep maskulinitas, sehingga dapat menjadi bahan tambahan untuk diterapkan dalam objek penelitian lain.

The research entitled Masculinity in Romance: A Study on Sandra Brown Novels Entitled In A Class by Itself and Fanta C is aimed to analyze the representation of masculinity in romance genre. In this research, descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data. The classification data of representation of masculinity is based on the characteristic of the heroes in two masculinity concepts: traditional and modern concept. The data is connected with gender theory, especially masculinity. The conclusion of representation of masculinity in romance is represented by the heroes in two masculinity concepts they are traditional and modern concept. Beside the hegemony characteristic over woman which is represented in traditional concept, such as the power and domination, the role of a man in public area and the physical strength of a man, the heroes also represent the new man identity of modern concept as the form of supporting woman such as the role of a man in domestic area, the sensitiveness and softness, the interpersonal relationship, the physical appearance and the consumerism as well as hedonism style.  The result of the research is expected to enrich the comprehension of romance novels as a literary work and to add the knowledge about gender theory especially masculinity concept, so they can apply them in other objects.
