Penelitian ini berjudul “American Social Value as Seen in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa sudut pandang dalam karakter Amory Blaine terhadap nilai sosial Amerika yang tercermin dalam novel This Side of Paradise karangan F. Scoot Fitzgerald. Sudut pandang yang terjadi dalam karakter Amory Blaine dipengaruhi oleh nilai-nilai sosial masyarakat Amerika. 
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisa kalimat serta ucapan yang ada dalam novel menggunakan teori new criticism serta pendekatan close-reading. Peneliti menggunakan novel This Side of Paradise karangan F. Scoot Fitzgerald sebagai sumber utama penelitian. 
Penelitian ini terdiri dari beberapa tahapan. Tahap pertama yaitu mencari arti kata pada kalimat dan ucapan yang terdapat pada novel. Tahap selanjutnya adalah menganalisa kata tersebut untuk mencari sudut pandang dalam karakter yang terdapat pada novel. Tahap berikutnya adalah menemukan nilai sosial masyarakat Amerika melalui intrinsik elemen yang terdapat pada novel. Tahap terakhir adalah membuat kesimpulan. 
Dalam mendeskripsikan dan mendukung data, beberapa elemen intrinsik juga digunakan seperti simbol-simbol, majas, seting, dan karakter. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai sosial masyarakat Amerika memberi pengaruh yang sangat besar pada diri Amory Blaine sehingga menghasilkan sudut pandang dalam karakter Amory Blaine terhadap nilai sosial masyarakat Amerika itu sendiri. Amory akhirnya mengerti bahwa semua pengorbanan hidupnya sendiri tidak dapat memperoleh kebebasan tanpa perubahan usahanya menuju kebebasan itu sendiri. Amory mengalami realisasi diri yang mendalam, dan datang untuk melihat keegoisan sendiri.
Hasil Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya pemahaman terhadap pendekatan close reading dan elemen intrinsik karya sastra, sehingga pembaca dapat menerapkan pendekatan tersebut pada karya-karya sastra lainnya.

This research is entitled "American Social Value as Seen in F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise ". This study aims to analyze the point of view within Amory Blaine is reflected in the novel This Side of Paradise bouquet F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research methods to analyze sentences and the words are there in using a novel approach of Close Reading. Researchers use novel This Side of Paradise bouquet F. Scott Fitzgerald as a primary source of research.

This study consists of several stages. The first stage is to find the meaning of words in sentences and words contained in the novel. The next stage is to analyze the word to find point of view within Amory Blaine. The next stage is to find the value of American society throught intrinsic elements of the novel. The last step is to make the conclusion.
	
In describing and support of data, some intrinsic elements are also used as symbols, figure of speech, setting, and character. Analysis shows that the social value of American society gives an enormous influence on the self- Amory Blaine resulting point of view within Amory Blaine toward American social value itself.
Amory finally understand that all his sacrifice in his own life can not acquire the freedom without changes his effort toward freedom itself; Amory always judge people from the social status, educational level, and which part of the country they are come; and also Amory’s point of view toward marriage changes. Eventually, having discarded or lost convention, love, and money, Amory experiences a deep self-realization, and comes to see his own selfishness.

The research results are expected to enrich the understanding of the close approach of the intrinsic elements of reading and literature, so that the reader can apply these approaches to other literary works.
