Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) adalah sebuah alat kedokteran di bidang pencitraan diagnosa penyakit pasien untuk memeriksa tubuh dengan menggunakan prinsip resonansi magnetik dan gelombang frekuensi radio terhadap inti atom hidrogen. Alat tersebut memiliki kemampuan membuat gambaran potongan organ manusia tanpa banyak memanipulasi tubuh pasien, contoh : potongan koronal, sagital, aksial dan oblik. Teknik penggambaran MRI relatif komplek karena tergantung pada banyak parameter. Jika pemilihan parameter tidak tepat, bisa menimbulkan artefak. Contohnya, kualitas gambar tidak bersih, terlihat kabur, terdapat derau, warna terlalu kontras, dan kurang tajam. Oleh karena itu, untuk membantu proses analisa citra MRI lebih tepat dan detail maka diperlukan peningkatan kualitas citra dengan menggunakan metode Contrast Stretching. Peningkatan kualitas citra tersebut melalui beberapa kondisi, yang merupakan persamaan dasar metode Contrast Stretching. Pengguna diharapkan bisa mendapatkan keluaran yang lebih baik daripada citra asli. Untuk mempermudah dalam penggunaannya, metode contrast stretching ini akan dibuat dalam bentuk aplikasi GUI Matlab.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI ) is a medical device in the field of diagnostic imaging to examine the body of a patient's disease using the principles of magnetic resonance and radio frequency waves to the nuclei of hydrogen atoms . The tool has the ability to make a picture of human organ pieces without a lot of manipulating the patient's body , for example: pieces of coronal , sagittal , axial and oblique . MRI imaging techniques are relatively complex because it depends on many parameters . If the parameter selection is not appropriate  , can lead to artifacts . For example , the picture quality is not clean , it looks blurry , there is noise , too contrasting colors , and less sharp . Therefore , to assist in the MRI image analysis more precise and detail it is necessary to increase the quality of the image by using the method of Contrast Stretching . Increase image quality through a number of conditions which are the basic equations Contrast Stretching method . Users are expected to be able to get a better output than the original image . For ease of use , method of contrast stretching will be made in the form of Matlab GUI application .
