DIAGRAM PROFIL POHON PADA HUTAN SUBMONTANA DAN MONTANA DI LERENG SELATAN GUNUNG SLAMET, BANYUMAS
Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)

Differences in elevation create environmental gradients associated with variations in the structure, composition, and stratification of montane forest vegetation. Changes in environmental conditions along an elevational gradient may affect species distribution, canopy arrangement, and vegetation community characteristics in both submontane and montane zones. However, quantitative information on forest vertical structure and tree profile diagrams on the southern slope of Mount Slamet remains limited, particularly with respect to comparisons between these two elevational zones. This study aimed to compare vegetation structure and composition and to characterize tree profile diagrams in the submontane and montane forests on the southern slope of Mount Slamet, Banyumas. The study was conducted from June to July 2026 along the Juang Baturraden Hiking Trail within the East Banyumas Forest Management Unit at elevations of 1,100 and 1,343 m a.s.l., representing the submontane zone, and 1,559 and 1,732 m a.s.l., representing the montane zone. Data were collected through direct field surveys using the hiking trail as a transect, a 40 m × 20 m main plot for constructing tree profile diagrams, and quadrat plots for vegetation inventory. Vegetation structure and composition were analyzed using the Importance Value Index (IVI), Margalef richness index, Shannon–Wiener diversity index, and Pielou evenness index, while the environmental parameters comprised elevation, air temperature and humidity, light intensity, soil moisture, and soil pH. Tree profile diagrams and vegetation stratification were analyzed based on the position, height, and crown characteristics of each individual using SExI-FS software. Differences in ecological indices among elevations were tested using one-way ANOVA supplemented with robust tests and Holm correction, whereas multivariate relationships between environmental factors and ecological indices were analyzed using Regularized Canonical Correlation Analysis (RCCA), exact permutation tests, and leave-one-plot-out sensitivity analysis. The study recorded 419 individuals in the submontane forest, comprising 43 species across four growth stages and 30 families, whereas the montane forest contained 388 individuals with 22 species from 20 families. At the tree stage, the highest IVI was recorded for Schima wallichii in the submontane forest at 51.812 and for Lithocarpus sp. in the montane forest at 123.597, while the highest richness and diversity values were found among submontane seedlings, with R = 4.415 and H' = 2.635, and all H' values were classified as indicating moderate diversity. The profile diagrams included 99 tree individuals, consisting of 36 individuals in stratum B and 63 individuals in stratum C, with no individuals in stratum A; the submontane forest had a relatively denser and more overlapping canopy than the more open montane forest, while the ANOVA results indicated that no differences in ecological indices among elevations remained significant after Holm correction. RCCA revealed that a significant global relationship occurred only at the pole stage (ρ₁ = 0.6803; Holm-adjusted p = 0.0468; redundancy = 30.6%), primarily in association with elevation, air temperature, soil moisture, and pH.
