GEOLOGI DAN PENGAYAAN LITHIUM PADA MUD VOLCANO DAERAH CINIRU, KABUPATEN KUNINGAN, PROVINSI JAWA BARAT
Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)
Global demand for critical elements has surged sharply in recent years, for example lithium, which is currently a key component of Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIBs). In Indonesia, the potential for lithium has not been properly explored, therefore, systematic research on the existence of lithium in Indonesia needs to be conducted. This study focuses on the potential of lithium deposits associated with clay-hosted systems in the Ciniru area, Kuningan Regency, West Java. The objective of this study is to determine the enrichment characteristics of lithium and other important elements in the Ciuyah mud volcano system. This study aims to determine the characteristics of lithium enrichment and other critical elements in the Ciuyah mud volcano. To support the research objectives, systematic analyses were conducted, including petrography, XRD, ICPS-MS, and XRF. Mineralogically, the clay minerals dominating the mud samples consist of illite and kaolinite, followed by quartz, calcite, aragonite, and albite. This is confirmed by geochemical characteristics showing significant concentrations of major elements such as SiO₂, Al₂O₃, K₂O, CaO, Na₂O, MgO, TiO₂, and Fe₂O₃, indicating the dominance of phyllosilicate minerals (clay minerals) as the primary constituents of the samples. Trace element analysis show lithium in mud samples has a highest concentration of 102.9 ppm and a lowest concentration of 54.5 ppm. The overall average lithium content is 82.09 ppm (compared lithium concentration in sedimentary rocks of 56,5 ppm and earth's crust of 17 ppm). Several critical minerals (e.g., Cu and Sc) have concentrations ranging from 13.53 to 72.24 ppm. The mud samples contain rare earth elements (REE), with an average total rare earth element (TREE) concentration of 142.97 ppm. Lithium in the mud samples shows a positive correlation with Fe₂O₃ and TiO₂. Lithium enrichment in the Ciuyah mud volcano occurs through ion adsorption and isomorphic substitution processes, in which minerals such as kaolinite and illite act as binding minerals.
