Percobaan faktorial adalah suatu percobaan yang melibatkan penelitian tentang pengaruh dari dua faktor atau lebih. Dalam penelitian ini, percobaan dilakukan pada lingkungan yang homogen dan faktor-faktor bersifat kuantitatif sehingga digunakan RAL faktorial dengan metode polinom ortogonal. Melalui metode ini, diperoleh model pendekatan polinom ortogonal dengan derajat polinom dipilih berdasarkan kontras-kontras ortogonal yang nyata dari masing-masing faktor. Dari model pendekatan ini, peneliti dapat menentukan taraf dari masing-masing faktor yang mengoptimalkan respon.

Factorial experiment is an experiment which involves the study of the effects of two or more factors. In this study, the experiment was made at a homogeneous area and the factors are quantitative so a completely randomized design was applied by the method of orthogonal polynomial. By this method, the approximation of orthogonal polynomial model can be found, where the polynomial order is given according to the orthogonal contrasts of each factor which significant. From this model, experimenter may set the levels of each factor which optimize the response.
