Etnis Uighur merupakan salah satu kelompok minoritas yang diakui secara konstitusional di Cina, namun keberadaannya dipandang sebagai ancaman terhadap stabilitas nasional dan dianggap sebagai kelompok separatis. Pandangan tersebut kemudian mendorong Pemerintah Cina untuk memberlakukan serangkaian kebijakan diskriminatif yang secara sistematis memarjinalkan identitas dan eksistensi etnis Uighur. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana legitimasi identitas dan resistensi kelompok etnis Uighur di Cina dengan menggunakan teori Manuel Castells tentang konstruksi identitas. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan pendekatan hermeneutika, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa identitas perlawanan yang dikonstruksi oleh etnis Uighur menciptakan strategi resistensi kultural untuk mempertahankan budaya dan eksistensi mereka di tengah wacana persatuan identitas nasional. Identitas perlawanan etnis Uighur merepresentasikan perjuangan kelompok minoritas dalam mempertahankan eksistensinya. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap kajian ilmu politik, khususnya dalam studi tentang identitas dan resistensi.

The Uighur ethnic group is one of the constitutionally recognized minority groups in China, but its existence is viewed as a threat to national stability and is considered a separatist group. This view then prompted the Chinese government to implement a series of discriminatory policies that systematically marginalize the identity and existence of the Uighur ethnic group. This article aims to understand how the legitimacy of identity and resistance of the Uighur ethnic group in China using Manuel Castells' theory of identity construction. Using qualitative methods and a hermeneutic approach, the research results show that the resistance identity constructed by the Uighur ethnic group creates cultural resistance strategies to preserve their culture and existence amidst the discourse of national identity unity. The resistance identity of the Uighur ethnic group represents the struggle of a minority group to maintain its existence. This research contributes to the field of political science, particularly in the study of identity and resistance.
