Aktivitas Antibakteri dan Identifikasi Molekuler Bakteri Asosiasi Spons Carteriospongia di Perairan Tulamben, Bali

Meningkatnya resistensi bakteri Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) mendorong pencarian agen antibakteri baru, salah satunya melalui eksplorasi bakteri asosiasi spons laut. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak metabolit sekunder dari bakteri asosiasi spons Carteriospongia yang diisolasi dari Perairan Tulamben, Bali. Ekstrak diuji terhadap empat bakteri MDR menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Hasil menunjukkan >70% isolat memiliki aktivitas lemah (zona hambat ≤5 mm), <11% menunjukkan aktivitas sedang terhadap Bacillus subtilis, dan sisanya tidak aktif. Isolat RI.NA.65 dipilih untuk identifikasi molekuler dan diketahui berkerabat dekat dengan Metabacillus indicus strain JG-30. Meski aktivitas antibakteri masih rendah, bakteri ini berpotensi sebagai sumber senyawa antibakteri dan memerlukan studi lanjutan untuk pemurnian dan pengujian lebih lanjut.

The increasing resistance of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria has driven the search for new antibacterial agents, one of which is through the exploration of bacteria associated with marine sponges. This study evaluated the antibacterial activity of secondary metabolite extracts from bacteria associated with the sponge Carteriospongia, isolated from the waters of Tulamben, Bali. The extracts were tested against four MDR bacteria using the disc diffusion method. The results showed that more than 70% of isolates exhibited weak activity (inhibition zone ≤ 5 mm), less than 11% showed moderate activity against Bacillus subtilis, and the remainder were inactive. The isolate RI.NA.65 was selected for molecular identification and was found to be closely related to Metabacillus indicus strain JG-30. Although the antibacterial activity was still low, this bacterium has potential as a source of antibacterial compounds and requires further studies for purification and additional testing.
