Tumbuh kembang anak dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, salah satunya yaitu pola asuh overprotektif. Fenomena ini divisualisasikan secara unik dalam manga Blood on the Tracks karya Shuzo Oshimi, yang mengisahkan hubungan kompleks antara Seiichi dan ibunya, Seiko. Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan representasi penerapan pola asuh overprotektif orang tua dan dampaknya terhadap tumbuh kembang anak. Pendekatan Semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce digunakan untuk menganalisis scene yang dipilih disertai dengan teori representasi milik Stuart Hall dan teori Interaksi Simbolik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pola asuh overprotektif Seiko direpresentasikan melalui tindakan-tindakan minor dengan makna tersirat, membatasi hubungan sosial dan emosional Seiichi, bahkan melakukan hal ekstrem untuk menciptakan kepatuhan dari Seiichi. Dampaknya, Seiichi mengalami gangguan kognitif yang membuatnya kesulitan bicara. Kondisinya dapat pulih ketika berada pada lingkungan yang mendukungnya sehingga resiliensinya dapat meningkat. Diketahui pula, pola asuh tersebut berakar dari trauma masa lalu Seiko, menjelaskan motivasi emosional di balik tindakannya.

Child development is influenced by various factors, one of which is overprotective parenting. This phenomenon is uniquely visualized in Shuzo Oshimi's manga Blood on the Tracks, which tells the story of the complex relationship between Seiichi and his mother, Seiko. This study aims to find representations of the application of overprotective parenting and its impact on child development. Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach is used to analyze selected scenes, accompanied by Stuart Hall's theory of representation and the theory of symbolic interaction. The results of the study show that Seiko's overprotective parenting style is represented through minor actions with implied meanings, limiting Seiichi's social and emotional relationships, and even resorting to extreme measures to enforce compliance from Seiichi. As a result, Seiichi experiences cognitive impairments that make it difficult for him to speak. His condition improves when he is in a supportive environment, thereby enhancing his resilience. It is also revealed that this parenting style stems from Seiko's past trauma, explaining the emotional motivations behind her actions.
