Industri Kecil Menengah (IKM) knalpot di Purbalingga merupakan salah satu sektor unggulan yang berperan dalam mendukung perekonomian daerah. Namun, industri ini menghadapi dilema yang kompleks akibat regulasi, faktor sosial, dan dinamika ekonomi. Berbagai pihak termasuk produsen, pengguna, dan pemangku kebijakan mempunyai pandangan yang kontradiktif. Di satu sisi, para pengrajin berusaha mempertahankan kelangsungan usaha mereka, sementara di sisi lain, regulasi serta pola konsumsi pengguna menimbulkan tantangan terhadap keberlanjutan industri. Karya berdurasi 23 menit dengan latar Kota Purbalingga ini memiliki tujuan untuk menampilkan realitas mengenai permasalahan yang dihadapi IKM knalpot di wilayah tersebut, khususnya berdasarkan aspek sosial, ekonomi, dan regulasi. Karya ini menghasilkan dua output utama, yaitu sebuah film dokumenter pendek serta laporan tugas akhir yang membahas peran sutradara dalam proses produksi film dokumenter. Penciptaan karya yang dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan ekspositori dengan memperoleh sumber data dari wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen untuk menggali sudut pandang dari berbagai pihak. Melalui karya ini, diharapkan penonton dapat memahami lebih dalam mengenai tantangan yang dihadapi oleh IKM knalpot di Purbalingga. Selain itu, laporan penulisan ini juga bertujuan untuk menjelaskan peran sutradara dari proses pra-produksi, produksi, hingga pasca-produksi, dengan memfokuskan pada cara mengarahkan konsep visual.

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) exhaust industry in Purbalingga is one of the leading sectors that plays a role in supporting the local economy. However, this industry faces a complex dilemma due to regulations, social factors, and economic dynamics. Several parties, including producers, consumers, and policymakers, have contradictory views. On one hand, the craftsmen strive to maintain the continuity of their businesses, while on the other hand, regulations and consumer consumption patterns pose challenges to the sustainability of the industry. This 23-minute documentary set in the city of Purbalingga aims to showcase the reality of the issues faced by the exhaust industry in the region, particularly in terms of social. This project consist of two main outputs: a short documentary film and a final report that discusses the director's role in the production process of this documentary film. The creation of the work was carried out using expository approach by obtaining data sources from interviews, observations, and document studies to explore the perspectives of various parties. Through this work, it is hoped that the audience can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the exhaust industry in Purbalingga. In addition, this writing report also aims to explain the role of the director from the pre-production, production, post-production, with a focus on how to direct the visual concept.
