Individu dengan maloklusi membutuhkan perawatan ortodonti seperti peranti cekat. Pemilihan operator perawatan ortodonti cekat menjadi hal penting karena kesalahan pemilihan operator dapat menyebabkan komplikasi seperti gingivitis, periodontitis, kegoyangan gigi hingga penurunan kualitas hidup. Faktor motivasi seperti aspek estetika, fungsional, psikologis, biaya, dan motivasi tren mempengaruhi pemilihan operator, baik ortodontis maupun non ortodontis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbandingan motivasi pengguna peranti ortodonti cekat pada pasien dengan operator ortodontis dan non ortodontis. Metode penelitian ini adalah observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Universitas Jenderal Soedirman yang menggunakan peranti cekat, dengan sampel sebanyak 106 responden dipilih melalui metode purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pengisian kuesioner yang bersifat valid dan reliabel secara daring. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motivasi estetika dan motivasi tren penggunaan peranti cekat berbeda secara signifikan antara operator ortodontis dan non ortodontis (p<0,05), sedangkan motivasi fungsional, psikologis, dan biaya tidak menunjukkan perbandingan yang signifikan (p>0,05). Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah motivasi estetika merupakan motivasi utama bagi individu dalam mencari perawatan ortodonti cekat, dan terdapat perbandingan motivasi tren yang signifikan antara pasien dengan operator ortodontis (21,2%) dan non ortodontis (60%).

Individuals with malocclusion or misaligned teeth often require orthodontic treatment, such as fixed appliances. The choice of an orthodontic care provider is crucial, as an incorrect choice maylead to complications like gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth mobility, and a decreased quality of life. Motivational factors, such as aesthetic, functional, psychological, economic, and trend-related aspects, influence the selection of orthodontic operators, whether orthodontists or non orthodontists. The aim of this study is to compare the motivations of users of fixed appliances in choosing orthodontist and non orthodontic operators. This research uses an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The population for this study was Universitas Jenderal Soedirman students who use fixed appliances, with a sample of 106 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a valid and reliable online questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that aesthetic and trends motivation in used of fixed appliances differed significantly between orthodontist and non-orthodontist (p<0,05), while functional, psychological, and cost-related motivations did not showed significant comparisons (p>0,05). The conclusion of this study is that aesthetic motivation is the primary factors for individuals in seeking fixed orthodontic treatment, and there is a significant comparison in trend-related motivation between patients treated by orthodontists (21,2%) and non-orthodontists (60%).
