Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji fenomena pertukaran kecantikan dan status sosial dalam konteks istilah "trophy wife", dengan fokus pada analisis semiotika terhadap unggahan YouTube dari podcast "Sobat Konglo". Istilah "trophy wife" merupakan istilah untuk istri yang dipandang sebagai simbol status sosial dan keberhasilan pria, sering kali dikaitkan dengan kecantikan fisik yang menarik. Melalui pendekatan semiotika, penelitian ini akan menganalisis bagaimana konsep kecantikan dan status sosial direpresentasikan dan dikonstruksi dalam media digital seperti podcast, serta berusaha menjabarkan bagaimana kecantikan dapat ditukarkan dengan sebuah status sosial melalui pernikahan. Selain itu terdapat pergeseran makna terhadap istilah “trophy wife” yang bukan lagi hanya sebuah pertukaran sosial dalam pernikahan lebih dari pada itu trophy wife harus merepresentasikan seorang istri yang sempurna. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis semiotika Roland Barthes digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi tanda-tanda (signs) yang digunakan dalam presentasi "trophy wife" dalam podcast tersebut, termasuk dalam percakapan, narasi, dan visualisasi yang disajikan. Hasil dari penelitian ini juga menunjukan bagaimana konstruksi sosial dan norma-norma gender tercermin dalam representasi "trophy wife" yang dipresentasikan di media sosial, serta dampaknya terhadap persepsi masyarakat terhadap peran dan nilai perempuan dalam hubungan dan kehidupan sosial secara lebih luas. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini tidak hanya memberikan wawasan mendalam terhadap fenomena "trophy wife" dalam konteks lokal, tetapi juga menawarkan kontribusi terhadap pemahaman kita tentang bagaimana media sosial mereproduksi dan mempengaruhi konstruksi sosial tentang kecantikan, status, dan gender.

This research aims to examine the phenomenon of beauty exchange and social status in the context of the term “trophy wife”, with a focus on semiotic analysis of YouTube uploads from the “Sobat Konglo” podcast. The term “trophy wife” is a term for a wife who is seen as a symbol of social status and male success, often associated with attractive physical beauty. Through a semiotic approach, this research will analyze how the concepts of beauty and social status are represented and constructed in digital media such as podcasts, and try to explain how beauty can be exchanged for a social status through marriage. In addition, there is a shift in meaning towards the term “trophy wife” which is no longer just a social exchange in marriage, more than that a trophy wife must represent a perfect wife.  This research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method to identify the signs used in the presentation of “trophy wife” in the podcast, including in the conversation, narration, and visualization presented. The results of this study also show how social construction and gender norms are reflected in the representation of the “trophy wife” presented on social media, as well as its impact on society's perception of the role and value of women in relationships and social life more broadly. As such, this research not only provides deep insight into the “trophy wife” phenomenon in a local context, but also offers a contribution to our understanding of how social media reproduces and influences social constructions of beauty, status and gender.
