Laporan hasil praktik kerja ini berjudul “CREATING AN ENGLISH 
POCKET BOOK FOR ASARASA COFFEE AND EATERY EMPLOYEES IN 
ELSOTEL HOTEL PURWOKERTO”. Praktik tersebut dilaksanakan pada 
tanggal 2 Mei 2023 sampai 2 Juni 2023 di Elsotel Purwokerto. Tujuan dalam 
praktik kerja tersebut adalah untuk membuat sebuah buku saku Bahasa Inggris 
yang ditujukan kepada karyawan ‘Asarasa Coffee and Eatery’ yang dikelola di
bawah Departemen ‘Food and Beverage’ dari Elsotel Purwokerto. Tujuan 
lainnya yaitu mengidentifikasi kesulitan atau halangan yang berhubungan 
dalam proses pembuatan buku saku Bahasa Inggris untuk ‘Asarasa Coffee and 
Eatery’ dan mengidentifikasi solusi terkait kesulitan atau halangan tersebut.
Elsotel Purwokerto adalah hotel Bintang 3 yang didirikan pada tahun 
2022 di Kota Purwokerto, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia. Elsotel menyediakan 
layanan perhotelan bagi tamunya, baik tamu domestik atau asing. Salah satu 
layanan yang diberikan oleh Elsotel kepada tamunya adalah layanan restoran 
yang bernama ‘Asarasa Coffee and Eatery’.
Saat praktik kerja berlangsung, penulis menemukan banyak tamu asing 
yang menggunakan layanan perhotelan dari Elsotel Purwokerto, terutama 
layanan restorannya yang bernama ‘Asarasa Coffee and Eatery’. Layanan 
restoran tersebut dikelola di bawah Departemen ‘Food and Beverage’ dari 
Elsotel Purwokerto. Tamu asing menggunakan layanan tersebut untuk sarapan, 
pemesanan langsung di restoran, maupun untuk layanan ‘room service’ dalam 
pemesanan makanan atau minuman.
Oleh karena itu, karyawan yang bertugas dalam pelayanan tersebut harus 
mampu menguasai Bahasa Inggris untuk mencegah terjadi miskomunikasi 
antara karyawan dan tamu asing karena komunikasi yang baik antara karyawan 
dan tamu dapat memberikan citra yang baik pada restoran maupun hotel itu 
sendiri. Dalam praktik kerja ini penulis menggunakan metode observasi, 
dokumentasi, dan wawancara dalam pengumpulan data.
Terdapat beberapa kesulitan atau halangan yang penulis temukan saat 
melakukan praktik kerja di Elsotel Purwokerto. Diantaranya adalah kurangnya 
karyawan yang dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik dalam Bahasa Inggris, 
kurangnya bahan ajar bagi karyawan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan 
berbahasa Inggris, kekurangan karyawan ditambah jam kerja yang tinggi sehingga menghambat karyawan untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris, kesalahan 
penulisan nama benda Bahasa Inggris pada daftar inventaris, dan daftar 
inventaris yang belum diperbarui. Namun, terdapat solusi untuk membantu 
dalam mengatasi kesulitan dan halangan yang dihadapi karyawan ‘Asarasa 
Coffee and Eatery’, yaitu dengan penggunaan buku saku yang dibuat oleh 
penulis. Terdapat juga solusi untuk kesulitan atau halangan yang didapati 
penulis dalam proses pembuatan buku saku, yaitu melakukan pengecekan 
ulang terhadap nama barang yang ada di daftar inventaris dan melakukan 
konsultasi dengan karyawan terkait.

This job training report is entitled “CREATING AN ENGLISH POCKET 
BOOK FOR ASARASA COFFEE AND EATERY EMPLOYEES IN 
ELSOTEL HOTEL PURWOKERTO”. The job training was conducted from 
May 2nd 2023 – June 2nd 2023 at Elsotel Purwokerto. The purpose of this job 
training is to create an English pocket book for the employees of the Asarasa 
Coffee and Eatery which is managed under the Food and Beverage Department 
of Elsotel Purwokerto. Other purposes are identifying the obstacles related to 
creating an English Pocket Book for Asarasa Coffee and Eatery of Elsotel 
Purwokerto and the solutions to overcome the obstacles in creating the pocket 
book.
Elsotel is a 3-star hotel that was established in 2022 in Purwokerto, 
Central Java, Indonesia. It provides hospitality services for their guests, both 
local guests and foreign guests. One of the services that Elsotel offers to its 
guests is the hotel restaurant called Asarasa Coffee and Eatery.
During the job training, the author found out that Elsotel Purwokerto has 
many foreign guests who use its services and hospitality, especially in its hotel 
restaurant, which is named Asarasa Coffee and Eatery, managed by the Food 
and Beverage Department. The foreign guests use their service either for the 
breakfast service, order directly in the restaurant, or their room service to order 
food and drink. 
Therefore, the employees who handled the particular field had to be able 
to communicate in English to prevent miscommunication between the 
employees and the foreign guests or customers. Good communication between 
the employees and guests could lead to good impressions of the restaurant and 
the hotel itself. The author used the observation, documentation, and interview
methods to obtain the materials during the job training.
There are several obstacles that the author found when carrying out the 
job training in the Elsotel Purwokerto, such as the lack of staffs who are able 
to communicate in fluent English, lack of materials to learn and improve staffs’ 
ability to enrich their English communication ability, staffs shortage that result 
in limited time of English training among the staffs, error in names of the items 
in their inventory list, and the dated inventory list. However, there are also 
solutions to overcome these obstacles such as enriching their English vocabulary and practicing English conversations that are related to their work 
tasks, which is provided in the pocket book that is created by the author. There 
are also solutions to overcome the obstacles that the author faced during the 
process of creating the pocket book by double-checking the items’ names and 
consulted with the related staffs.
