Cerita pendek merupakan salah satu bentuk fiksi, yang ceritanya sangat singkat, baik peristiwa yang di ungkapkan, isi cerita, dan jumlah kata yang digunakan. Cerita pendek yang memiliki berbagai variasi, salah satunya cerita pendek yang berjudul Mieko and the Fifth Treasure, karya dari Eleanor Coerr. Cerita tentang kisah seorang gadis kecil berumur 10 tahun yang mengalami insiden Bom atom di Nagasaki, Jepang.
Terdapat proses dalam menerjemahkan cerita pendek "Mieko and the Fifth Treasure" yaitu, Tahap analisis, proses menganalisis cerita pendek untuk memahami isi dan makna dari cerita pendek. Tahap Transfer, proses menerjemahkan dari bahasa sumber ke dalam bahasa sasaran. Tahap restrukturisasi, proses mengulang dengan meneliti secara keseluruhan. Tahap evaluasi dan revisi, proses memperbaiki kesalahan dalam proses menerjemahkan secara keseluruhan.
Ada beberapa teknik yang dipakai dalam proses penerjemahan cerita pendek yang berjudul Mieko and the Fifth Treasure. Teknik yang digunakan yaitu, Penerjemahan harfiah, Kalke, Transposisi. Kendala yang terdapat dalam proses penerjemahan cerita pendek Mieko and the Fifth Treasure yaitu, kesalahan yang terdapat pada makna terjemahan dari bahasa sumber ke bahasa sasaran, adanya kosa kata yang kurang dipahami, mencari padanan yang sesuai dalam bahasa sasaran. Solusi yang dilakukan yaitu, melakukan konsultasi dengan pembimbing, membaca kembali dengan teliti secara keseluruhan, dan lebih meningkatkan dalam mempelajari kosa kata. Teknik penerjemahan yang dilakukan, dapat membantu dalam proses penerjemahan. Teknik penerjemahan ini, sehingga mampu menghasilkan terjemahan yang sesuai dengan padanan kata dan tetap menyampaikan pesan yang ada dalam bahasa sumber.

Short story is a form of fiction, which the story is very short, both the events that are disclosed, the contents of the story, and the number of words used. Short stories have various variations, one of them is the short story entitled "Mieko and the Fifth Treasure", by Eleanor Coerr. The story of a 10 years old girl who experienced an atom bomb incident in Nagasaki, Japan.
There is a process in translating the short story "Mieko and the Fifth Treasure", namely, Analysis stage, the process of analyzing the short story to understand the content and meaning of the short story. Transfer stage, the process of translating from the source language into the target language. The reconstructing stage, the process repeats by examining it as a whole. Evaluation and revision stage, the process of correcting errors in the translation process as a whole.
There are several techniques used in the process of translating a short story entitled "Mieko and the Fifth Treasure". The techniques that used are Literal translation, Calque, Description, Borrowing, Reduction Transposition. The obstacles in the process of translating the short story Mieko and the Fifth Treasure are errors in the meaning of the translation from the source language to the target language, the lack of understanding of the vocabulary, and finding appropriate equivalent in the target language. The solution is to carry out consultation with supervisors, re-read carefully as a whole, and improve the ability to learning vocabulary. Translation techniques used can help in the translation process. This translation technique, so as to be able to produce translations that are by the equivalent words and still convey the message in the source language.
