ANTHROPOCENTRISM IN BURTON’S DUMBO (2019)

Penelitian berjudul “Anthropocentrism in Burton’s Dumbo (2019)” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tokoh-tokoh antroposentris dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data primer penelitian ini adalah film Dumbo (2019) yang disutradarai oleh Burton. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ekokritisisme sebagai teori utama analisis. Selain itu, teori antroposentrisme dan sinematografi keduanya digunakan untuk mendukung analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari enam karakter, empat di antaranya menunjukkan sifat antroposentris yang lemah. Farrier bersaudara bermula sebagai karakter antroposentris yang lemah hingga akhir cerita, sedangkan dua lainnya, Holt Farrier dan Max Medici berubah dan cenderung menjadi karakter antroposentris yang lemah setelah dipengaruhi oleh lingkungannya. Dua dari enam karakter lainnya, Rufus Sorghum dan V.A. Vandevere, menunjukkan sifat antroposentris yang kuat. Sifat-sifat tersebut tidak berubah dan semakin menurun kualitasnya dan pada akhirnya merusak dirinya sendiri.

This research entitled Anthropocentrism in Burton’s Dumbo (2019) aims to analyze the anthropocentric characters in the movie. This research used a qualitative method to analyze the data. The primary data of this research was the movie Dumbo (2019) directed by Burton. This research uses the ecocriticism theory as the main theory for the analysis. Additionally, anthropocentrism and cinematography theories are both used to support the analysis. The result of this research shows that out of six characters discussed, four of them show weak anthropocentric traits. The Farrier siblings start as weak anthropocentric characters, meanwhile the other two, Holt Farrier and Max Medici change and tend to become weak anthropocentric characters after being influenced by their environment. The other two characters out of six, Rufus Sorghum and V.A. Vandevere, shows strong anthropocentric traits. These characters do not change and degrade in quality and ruin themselves in the end.
