PENGEMBANGAN KLASIFIKASI AWAN MENGGUNAKAN SPLIT-WINDOW ALGORITHM PADA CITRA SATELIT HIMAWARI-8
Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)
A research about the development of cloud classification using the Split-window Algorithm (SWA) has been done. The goals of this research were to obtain clouds’s classification results based on the processing of Himawari-8 Satellite images using SWA, and to check the compatibility between those results and the results of clouds observation from the earth. The SWA method uses Brightness Temperature (BT) and Brightness Temperature Difference (BTD) values, which are provided by the infrared band of the Himawari-8 Satellite, specifically band 13 and band 15. Clouds image were also taken from a time-lapse camera, and classified based on their physical characteristics, such as appearance, shape, and color, using the Cloud Atlas and other literature studies. The data acquisition was conducted from October to November. A total of 54 Himawari-8 Satellite data, including both band 13 and band 15, were processed using Python programming to obtain BT-13, BT-15, and BTD values. These values were then used to determine cloud types based on the thresholds specified in the SWA scheme. The results of this research are that six types of clouds were classified using the SWA method: High Cumulonimbus (Hi-Cb), Dense Cirrus (D-Ci), Thick Cirrus (Thick-Ci), Cirrus (Ci), and Thin Cirrus (Thin-Ci). The classification results and the observation clouds results were compared to determine their compatibility. After some analysis and comparison, it was found that there was some overlap between the results. The differences between the SWA method’s results and the cloud observation from earth are considered normal due to variability of clouds in the troposphere.
