Abundance and Carapace Length Distribution of Macrobrachium pilimanus (De Man, 1879) at Banjaran River in Banyumas

Macrobrachium shrimp is one of the shrimp with economic value and is diverse and widely distributed globally. Macrobrachium pilimanus is a freshwater shrimp that lives in the habitat of fast-moving rivers and large rocks. The existence of freshwater shrimp in a river can maintain the balance of the ecosystem in the river. Environmental factors that can affect the abundance of shrimp such as pH, altitude, current speed, and brightness. Banjaran River is a tributary of the Logawa River, a relatively large river that flows throughout the year, passing through rural and urban areas of Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency. This study aims to determine the abundance of individuals, the carapace length distribution, and the sex ratio of shrimp in the Banjaran River, Banyumas Regency. This research was conducted using a survey method in the Banjaran River, Banyumas Regency. Sampling was conducted from June to August 2021 using the purposive sampling technique. The abundance was analyzed descriptively. The carapace length distribution was analyzed using the Microsoft Excel program. The results showed that the highest abundance of M. pilimanus was at station III. In all stations, the female shrimp number dominated, whereas the carapace length range was dominated by the male shrimp.
