Analisis Upaya Amerika Serikat dalam Mengurangi Penyelundupan Manusia Meksiko-Amerika Serikat Tahun 2017-2020

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi banyaknya penyelundupan manusia dari Meksiko ke Amerika Serikat, baik yang melalui perbatasan selatan AS maupun melalui perbatasan lainnya. Tingginya tingkat penyelundupan manusia ke dalam wilayah AS ini membuat pemerintah AS mengupayakan adanya tindak penanggulangan untuk mengurangi jumlah penyelundupan yang terjadi. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan perspektif Sekuritisasi yang memberi kesimpulan bahwa AS telah melakukan sekuritisasi atas imigran ilegal yang berasal dari Meksiko, menjadikan mereka sebagai suatu bentuk ancaman atas masyarakat dan negara, yang secara cepat perlu ditanggulangi. Pemerintah AS juga melakukan berbagai upaya lainnya untuk menanggulangi isu ini, seperti dimunculkan nya Executive order 13767 mengenai Border Security and Enforcement Improvements, pemberlakuan kebijakan Zero Tolerance, Executive order 13768 mengenai Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States, pembangunan tembok perbatasan baru atau yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan ‘Trump Wall’, serta berbagai upaya lainnya.

This research is motivated by the large number of people smuggling from Mexico to the United States, both through the US southern border or any other borders. The high rate of people smuggling into US territory makes the US government seek countermeasures to reduce the amount of smuggling that occurs. This research is analyzed using the Securitization perspective which concludes that the US has securitized illegal immigrants from Mexico, making them a form of threat to society and to the country, which needs to be addressed quickly. The US government has also made various other efforts to overcome this issue, such as the issuance of Executive order 13767 regarding Border Security and Enforcement Improvements, the implementation of the Zero Tolerance policy, Executive order 13768 regarding Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States, the construction of a new border wall or better known as the 'Trump Wall', as well as various other efforts.
