Abstrak Dalam kehidupan berkeluarga terdapat berbagai macam permasalahan salah satunya adalah perpisahan dalam keluarga karena kematian. Perpisahan dalam keluarga dapat menyebabkan berbagai masalah bagi anggota keluarga seperti hilangnya kehangatan dalam keluarga serta kegagalan keluarga dalam menjalankan perannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti hubungan ayah dengan anak dalam keluarga single parent dalam fil m searching. Sesuai dengan tujuannya maka penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memahami jalan cerita film, menyusun kategorisasi dan menyusun draft laporan. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semiotika Roland Barthes dan menganalisis menggunakan teori Interaksionisme Simbolik dari George Herbert Mead. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah keluarga single parent yang digambarkan dalam film searching memiliki gangguan dalam berinteraksi dan hubungan antara orang tua dengan ayah dingin. Hal itu disebabkan oleh kegagalan anggota keluarga untuk membicarakan tentang kematian sosok ibu dalam keluarga. Kegagalan tersebut menyebabkan permasalahan lebih besar dalam keluarga Kim seperti perubahan kepribadian anggota keluarga serta tidak hangatnya hubungan antar anggota dalam keluarga.

Abstract In family life there are various kinds of problems, one of them is separation in the family due to death. Separation in the family can cause various problems for family members such as the loss of warmth in the family and the failure of the family to carry out its role. This study aims to examine the relationship between fathers and children in single parent families in the movie searching. In accordance with its purpose, this research uses qualitative methods with data collection methods carried out by understanding the storyline of the film, compiling categorization and compiling draft reports. The data analysis technique used in this research is Roland Barthes' semiotics and analyzes using George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism theory. The result of this research is that the single parent family depicted in the movie searching has a disorder in interacting and the relationship between the parents and the father is cold. It is caused by the failure of family members to talk about the death of the mother figure in the family. The failure causes bigger problems in Kim's family such as changes in the personality of family members and the lack of warm relations between members in the family.
