Penelitian berjudul “The Analysis of Swearing Words Uttered by the Characters in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Comic by Cullen Bunn” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis kata umpatan dan alasan menggunakan kata umpatan yang digambarkan dalam kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat. Di dalam komik Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. Jenis-jenis kata umpatan terdiri dari kata lontaran, kata kasar, kata lucu/lelucon, dan kata bantu. Analisis ini dilakukan berdasarkan teori Andersson dan Trudgil (2008), untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis kata umpatan dan teori Andersson untuk menganalisis alasan menggunakan kata umpatan. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam memecahkan rumusan masalah dan teknik purposive sampling digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengumpulkan data. Data utama dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh kata umpatan yang menggambarkan jenis-jenis dan alasan menggunakan kata umpatan. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan dalam mengumpulkan data antara lain: (1) Peneliti harus membaca komik dan membuat daftar kata-kata umpatan yang diucapkan oleh karakter dalam komik Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, (2) Peneliti menggunakan daftar kata-kata umpatan untuk mengkategorikan kata umpatan menurut jenis dan alasannya. Pada Langkah ini, peneliti menggunakan tabel pengkodean untuk mengkategorikan kata-kata umpatan yang diucapkan para karakter. (3) Peneliti harus menganalisis hasil kategorisasi sebelumnya. Pada langkah ini peneliti menganalisis data untuk melihat penyebaran jenis kata umpatan dan alasan kata umpatan. (4)  Langkah terakhir adalah menafsirkan dan menyatakan temuan. Peneliti menginterpretasikan hasil analisis dalam bentuk deskripsi berdasarkan literatur yang telah ditelaah. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga alasan mengumpat, yaitu motif psikologis, motif social, dan motif linguistik. Peneliti menemukan bahwa umpatan kasar adalah jenis yang dominan, dan motif psikologis adalah yang dominan di komik ini.

This research entitled “The Analysis of Swearing Words Uttered by the Characters in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Comic by Cullen Bunn” aims to analyze the types of swearing words and the motives in using swearing words depicted by the words, phrases, clauses, and sentence. In the Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe comic. The types of swearing words consist of expletive, abusive, humorous, and auxiliary. The analysis conducted using theory of Andersson and Trudgil (2008) to analyze the types of swearing words and Andersson to analyze the motives in using swearing words. The descriptive qualitative method is applied to solve the research questions and purposive sampling technique is used in this research to collect the data. The primary data are all the swearing words depicted the types and motives of swearing words. The step of data collection the researcher takes are the following: (1) The researcher has to read the comic and make a list of the swear words uttered by the characters in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe comic. (2) The researcher uses the list of the swear words to categorize the swear words according to the types and reasons. In this step, the researcher uses the coding table for categorizing the swear words uttered by the characters. (3) The researcher has to analyze the result of the categorization previously. In this step, the researcher analyzes the data to see the spreading of the types of swear words and reasons for swearing. (4) The last step is interpreting and stating the findings. The researcher interprets the result of the analysis in the form of description based on the reviewed literature. This research also showed that there were three reasons for swearing, they were psychological motives, social motives, and linguistics motives. The researcher found that abusive swearing was the dominant type, and psychological motive was dominant in this comic.
