This research entitled “Revisiting Battle of Hattin Depicted in Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven (2005): A New Historicism Study” is aimed to figuring out the different version of battle of Hattin as portrayed in Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Ridley Scott. Since this film is made based on the historical event in 12th century, this research will examine some contradictive representations of this event as recorded in some history books. In analyzing the historicity of battle in Hattin in both film and history books, this research uses new historicism as the the theoretical framework. Furthermore, the researchers used qualitative methods since the research deals with the link between literary text and non-literary text in order to uncover the historicity of battle of Hattin. The data of this research is obtained from the movie in the form of dialogues and pictures, also from some history books contained about battle of Hattin event. Consequently, the result indicates that this film portrays the events of the battle of Hattin which are different through both aspects, namely the crucial motive of the battle and the great pre-war strategy of Saladin. Besides, the research also finds the influences of the mastermind of this film.

Penelitian yang berjudul “Revisiting Battle of Hattin Depicted in Scott's Kingdom of Heaven (2005): A New Historicism Study” ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan versi pertempuran Hattin yang digambarkan dalam Kingdom of Heaven (2005) oleh Ridley Scott. Karena film ini dibuat berdasarkan peristiwa sejarah pada abad ke-12, penelitian ini akan mengkaji beberapa representasi kontradiktif dari peristiwa ini seperti yang tercatat dalam beberapa buku sejarah. Dalam menganalisis historisitas pertempuran di Hattin baik dalam film maupun buku sejarah, penelitian ini menggunakan historisisme baru sebagai kerangka teori. Selanjutnya, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif karena penelitian ini berkaitan dengan keterkaitan antara teks sastra dan teks non-sastra untuk mengungkap historisitas pertempuran Hattin. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari film berupa dialog dan gambar, juga dari beberapa buku sejarah yang berisi tentang peristiwa battle of Hattin. Akibatnya, hasil menunjukkan bahwa film ini menggambarkan peristiwa pertempuran Hattin yang berbeda melalui kedua aspek, yaitu motif penting pertempuran dan strategi besar sebelum perang Saladin. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menemukan pengaruh dalang dari film ini.
