Masalah sosial merupakan suatu kondisi yang bertentangan dengan norma-norma masyarakat. Masalah sosial juga dapat ditemukan dalam karya sastra. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa sastra dan masyarakat memiliki keterkaitan. Penelitian ini membahas masalah sosial dan faktor-faktor penyebab masalah sosial dalam novel Balada Si Roy: Joe karya Gol A Gong berdasarkan teori Soerjono Soekanto dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan (1) wujud masalah sosial dalam novel Balada Si Roy: Joe karya Gol A Gong ditinjau melalui pendekatan sosiologi sastra dan (2) faktor-faktor penyebab masalah sosial dalam novel Balada Si Roy: Joe karya Gol A Gong. Penelitian ini berbentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data-data penelitian berupa kutipan-kutipan yang terdapat dalam novel Balada Si Roy: Joe. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara membaca objek penelitian secara berulang-ulang. Analisis dan penyajian data menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan cara penggambaran melalui kata-kata. Data yang diperoleh sebanyak 60 data. Adapun hasil penelitian mengungkap terdapat lima (5) wujud masalah sosial, meliputi: (1) kejahatan, (2) disorganisasi keluarga, (3) masalah generasi muda dalam masyarakat modern, (4) pelanggaran terhadap norma-norma masyarakat; pelacuran, delinkuensi anak-anak, dan alkoholisme, dan (5) masalah kependudukan. Faktor penyebab masalah ditemukan sebanyak 3 faktor, yaitu: (1) faktor ekonomi, (2) faktor psikologis, dan (3) faktor kebudayaan. Masalah sosial yang dominan muncul yaitu pelanggaran terhadap norma-norma masyarakat.

A social problem is a condition that is contrary to the norms of society. Social problems can also be found in literary works. This shows that literature and society have a relationship. This study discusses social problems and the factors that cause social problems in the novel Balada Si Roy: Joe by Gol A Gong based on Soerjono Soekanto’s theory using a sociological approach to literature. The purpose of this study is to describe (1) the form of social problems in the novel Balada Si Roy: Joe by Gol A Gong in terms of a sociological approach to literature and (2) the factors that cause social problems in the novel Balada Si Roy: Joe by Gol A Gong. This research is in the form of qualitative research. The research data are in the form of quotes contained in the novel Balada Si Roy: Joe. Data collection is done by reading the object of research repeatedly. Data analysis and presentation using the descriptive method by way of depiction through words. The data obtained are 60 data. The results of the study reveal that there are five (5) forms of social problems, including: (1) crime, (2) family disorganization, (3) problems with the younger generation in modern society, (4) violations of societal norms; prostitution, delinquency of children, and alcoholism, and (5) population problems. 3 factors were causing the problem, namely: (1) economic factors, (2) psychological factors, and (3) cultural factors. The dominant social problem that arises is the violation of the norms of society.
