Film Precious adalah salah satu film ber-genre drama yang rilis pada 6 November 2009 di Amerika Serikat dan mampu membuat para penontonnya berempati kepada tokoh utamanya. Film ini menceritakan tentang seorang perempuan bernama Clairecee atau kerap disapa Precious. Ia selalu dipandang sebelah mata karena berkulit hitam dan bertubuh gemuk, namun memiliki karakter yang tegar dan kuat. Precious tinggal bersama dengan ibunya yang temperamental dan seringkali disiksa oleh sang ibu. Dirinya juga menjadi korban pelecehan seksual oleh ayahnya sendiri hingga dia hamil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tindak kekerasan orang tua Precious terhadap dirinya dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis dari Teun Van Dijk. Metode tersebut memiliki tiga dimensi yang menjadi objek penelitiannya yaitu teks, kognisi sosial, dan konteks/analisis sosial. Teori yang disematkan untuk mendukung serta menguatkan isi pembahasan adalah relasi kekuasaan di dalam keluarga dari perspektif Michel Foucault dan Louis Althusser. Substansi penelitian ini bersifat komprehensif, tidak hanya membahas tentang kekerasan anak di dalam relasi keluarga tetapi juga menyinggung dan melibatkan isu rasial dan budaya patriarki. Hal tersebut adalah implikasi dari cara atau metode penelitian yang menggunakan analisis wacana kritis.

Precious is a drama genre film that was released on November 6, 2009 in the United States and was able to make the audience empathize with the main character. This film tells the story of a woman named Clairecee or often called Precious. He is always underestimated because he is black and fat, but has a strong and strong character. Precious lives with his mother who is temperamental and is often abused by her mother. She was also a victim of sexual harassment by her own father until she became pregnant.
This study aims to determine the acts of violence of Precious's parents against him by using the critical discourse analysis method of Teun Van Dijk. The method has three dimensions which are the object of the research, namely text, social cognition, and social context/analysis. The theory that is embedded to support and strengthen the content of the discussion is the power relation from the perspective of Michel Foucault and Louis Althusser. The substance of this research is comprehensive, not only discussing child violence in family relationships but also alluding to and involving racial and patriarchal cultural issues. This is the implication of the research method that uses critical discourse analysis.
The results of the study conclude that: (1) The first dimension is the text which has three parts; macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure, explaining in detail the storyline of the film, starting from the topic of the story about the violence of Precious's parents against him, then the scheme or framework of issues that are still complex on the outskirts of America, and the meanings in the dialogues or scenes that show the existence of verbal and non-verbal violence experienced by Precious. (2) The dimension of social cognition explains social realities in people's lives, such as parental violence against children, which is based on the novel Push by Sapphire which was later turned into a film by Lee Daniels to be an educational spectacle. (3) The dimension of social context/analysis explains the correlation between the issues discussed in the film with the theory of power relations of Foucault and Althusser where parental violence against children in a family is caused by differences in status or position between parents who are superior to children which is inferior. The patriarchal culture that resides strongly in the family structure which makes the position of men more powerful and able to do as they wish to women as their wives or children.
