Penelitian ini berjudul “The Study Of Irony In Ellen Degeneres Video Ellen Talks About Her Corona Experience And How To Express Yourself And Stay Safe With A Mask On” dan bertujuan untuk mengetahui tipe-tipe ironi dalam stand up comedy yang dipertunjukkan oleh Ellen. Teori-teori yang digunakan dalam melakukan penelitian ini yaitu tipe-tipe ironi yang digagas oleh Perrine (1996). Untuk menjawab rumusan masalah, metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam menganalisis data. Sementara itu, data utama dalam penelitian ini diambil dari ungkapan Ellen dalam video stand up comedynya. Sumber data penelitian ini diambil dari saluran Youtube milik Ellen yang berjudul “Ellen Talks About Her Corona Experience And How To Express Yourself And Stay Safe With A Mask On”. Untuk dapat mengetahui tipe ironi dari ungkapan yang dikumpulkan dari video tersebut, teori pragmatik, khususnya teori ironi milik Perrine digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan, di dalam video tersebut terdapat 3 tipe ironi yaitu ironi verbal (76,48%), ironi situational (23,52%), ironi dramatis (0%). Jenis ironi yang paling sering ditemukan dalam penelitian ini ialah ironi verbal, yang kemudian diikuti ironi situasional lalu ironi dramatis. Ironi mengindikasikan makna yang dimaksud dari suatu pernyataan berbeda dengan makna yang sebenarnya yang memang biasa digunakan dalam pertunjukan stand up comedy.

This research is entitled “The Study Of Irony In Ellen Degeneres Video Ellen Talks About Her Corona Experience And How To Express Yourself And Stay Safe With A Mask On” and is conducted to find out the types of Irony in Stand Up Comedy by Ellen. The theories applied in doing this research are types of irony proposed by Perrine (1996). In order to answer the research question, the descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the data. Meanwhile, the primary data of this research are the utterances by Ellen in her Stand up comedy. The data source of this research is a video taken from Ellen’s Youtube channel with the title “Ellen Talks about Her Corona Experience and How to Express Yourself and Stay Safe with a Mask On”. In order to figure out the types of Irony of the utterances collected from the video, a specific theory of pragmatics, especially Perrine’s theory of Irony is used in this research. Based on the analysis, there are three types of irony which are Verbal Irony (76,48%), Situational Irony (23,52%), Dramatic Irony (0%). The dominant types of Irony found in this research is Verbal Irony, which is followed by situational irony and then dramatic irony. Irony indicates that the intended meaning of a statement is different from the actual meaning that is usually used in stand-up comedy shows.
