Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) struktur narasi dan (2) pola perjalanan pahlawan yang terdapat dalam novel Akar karya Dee Lestari. Peneliti menggunakan teori strukturalisme dan pola perjalanan pahlawan Joseph Campbell.
Objek penelitian adalah novel Akar karya Dee Lestari yang diterbitkan pertamakali secara mandiri oleh Truedee Books pada tahun 2002. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif. Dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu membaca secara intensif novel Akar, mencatat dan menandai data penting, dan mengklasifikasikan struktur narasi dan juga tahap-tahap pola perjalanan pahlawan.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan akan adanya pola perjalanan pahlawan dalam novel Akar. Pola yang ditemukan selaras dengan tiga tahap besar struktur narasi, yaitu; bagian Departure selaras dengan struktur narasi bagian Orientation, kemudian bagian Initiation selaras dengan Complication, dan Return selaras dengan Resolution. Selain itu, penelitian ini tidak menemukan beberapa tahap pada pola perjalanan pahlawan dalam novel Akar. Di antaranya; tahap Belly of the Whale, Ultimate Boon, Refusal of Return dan Crossing of Return Treshold. Dari 17 tahap pola perjalanan pahlawan, novel Akar cocok dengan 13 poin.

This study aims to describe: (1) the narrative structure and (2) the hero's journey contained in the novel Akar by Dee Lestari. The researcher uses the theory of structuralism and Joseph Campbell's hero's journey.
	The object of this research is the novel Akar by Dee Lestari which was first published independently by Truedee Books in 2002. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method. With data collection techniques, namely intensive reading of the novel Akar, recording and marking important data, and classifying the narrative structure as well as the stages of the hero's journey.
	This study reveals that there is a pattern of the hero's journey in the novel Akar. The patterns found are in line with the three major stages of narrative structure, namely;  the Departure part is in line with the narrative structure of the Orientation part, then the Initiation part is in line with Complication, and Return is in line with Resolution. In addition, this study did not find several stages in the the hero's journey in the novel Akar. Among them;  Belly of the Whale, Ultimate Boon, Refusal of Return and Crossing of Return Threshold stages. Of the 17 stages of the hero's journey pattern, the novel Roots matched 13 points.
