Berbicara dianggap sebagai salah satu keahlian yang paling penting namun juga sulit untuk dikuasai dalam mempelajari suatu bahasa. Hal ini dikarenakan orang-orang biasanya saling berinteraksi melalui komunikasi verbal. Berbicara tidak hanya tentang menghasilkan beberapa kata atau suara. Pembicara harus menghasilkan kalimat yang jelas dengan menggabungkan beberapa kata yang bermakna sehingga idenya dapat tersampaikan dengan jelas. Dalam hal ini, pembelajaran grammar dapat membantu pembicara menghasilkan kata-kata yang bermakna. Ada beberapa kategori dalam grammar dan salah satunya adalah tense. Namun, menerapkan tenses dalam berbicara tidaklah mudah. Fulcher (2003: 29) menyatakan bahwa pemilihan tense mungkin merupakan masalah yang paling umum dalam produksi ujaran. Namun, penggunaan tense yang tidak tepat memiliki pengaruh yang sangat kecil pada kemampuan pendengra untuk memahami apa yang dikatakan oleh pembicara. 
	Fokus utama dari peneilitian ini ialah korelasi antara pengetahuan tenses dan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa semester 4 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Jenderal Soedirman tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Penelitian ini menggambarkan arah hubungan antara pengetahuan tenses dan kemampuan berbicara. Selain itu juga untuk mengetahui seberapa tinggi korelasi antara pengetahuan tenses dengan kemampuan berbicara.
	Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari nilai siswa. Peneliti menggunakan dua tes berbeda untuk mengumpulkan data. Tes pilihan ganda digunakan untuk mengumpulkan nilai pengetahuan tenses siwa dan tes lisan digunakan untuk mengumpulkan nilai kemampuan berbicara siswa.
	Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasional. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dari nilai siswa kemudian menganalisis data tersebut menggunakan SPSS 23 untuk mengetahui korelasi antara dua variable. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 4 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Jenderal Soedirman Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari 38 partisipan.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan tenses dan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa semester 4 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris berada di kategori baik. Selain itu, terdapat korelasi positif antara pengetahuan tenses dan kemampuan berbicara pada mahasiswa seamester 4 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Jenderal Soedirman tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil r hitung sebesar 0.492 > r tabel yaitu sebesar 0.320 (tingkat signifikansi 0.05 atau 5%). Hal ini juga menunjukkan bahwa korelasi antara pengetahuan tenses dengan kemampuan berbicara berada pada level sedang. Berdasarkan data di atas, hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peneliti memberikan saran kepada dosen untuk lebih banyak memberikan latihan dan pemahaman tentang penggunaan masing-masing tenses kepada mahasiswa. Peneliti juga memberikan saran kepada mahasiswa untuk lebih memperhatikan penjelasan dosen tentang grammar khususnya tentang tenses agar pemahaman mereka meningkat. Selain itu, para mahasiswa juga harus lebih sering berlatih berbicara sehingga keterampilan berbicara mereka menjadi lebih baik dan lancar.

Speaking is considered as one of the most important yet difficult skills to be mastered in learning a language. It is because people usually interact with each other through verbal communication. Speaking is not only about producing some words or sounds. A speaker should produce clear sentences by combining some meaningful words so their ideas can be conveyed clearly. In this case, grammar learning can help the speaker to produce some meaningful words. There are some categories in grammar and one of them is tense. However, implementing tenses in speaking is not that easy. Fulcher (2003: 29) stated that tense selection is probably the most common problem in speech production. However, the use of an inappropriate tense has very little effect on the listener’s ability to understand what the speaker is saying.
	The main concern of this research is the correlation between knowledge of tenses and speaking ability at the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program at Jenderal Soedirman University in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. It figures out the direction of the correlation between knowledge of tenses and speaking ability. Furthermore, it also finds out how high the correlation between knowledge of tenses and speaking ability is.
	The data of this research was obtained from the students’ scores. The researcher used two different tests to collect the data. The multiple choice test was used to collect the students’ knowledge of tenses scores and the oral test was used to collect the students’ speaking ability scores.
The type of this research is quantitative research with correlational research design. The researcher collected the data from the students’ scores and then analyzed the data using SPSS 23 to know the correlation between two variables. The subject of this research were the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program at Jenderal Soedirman University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The sample of this research were 38 participants. 
	The result of this research shows that the knowledge of tenses and speaking ability of the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program are in good category. Furthermore, there is a positive correlation between students’ tenses knowledge and their speaking ability at the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program of Jenderal Soedirman University in the academic year of 2019/2020. It can be seen from the result of r count value is 0.492 > r table which is equal to 0.320 (5% or 0.05 of level significance). It also indicates that the correlation between knowledge of tenses and speaking ability is medium. Based on the data above, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
According to the research result, The researcher suggests the lecturers to give more exercises and comprehension about the use of each tenses to the students. The researcher also suggests the students to pay attention to the grammar’s lecturer explanation about grammar especially tenses more seriously so their comprehension will be increase. Moreover, they should practice their speaking more often so their speaking skill will be better and more fluent.
