Penelitian ini berjudul The Analysis of Interruption in Same Sex and Different Sex Conversations in Ellen DeGenerees Show. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tujuan interupsi dengan menggunakan teori Murata (1994) dan Zhao & Gantz (2003) dan menganalisis fitur linguistik yang digunakan dalam interupsi pada lawan jenis dan sesama jenis dengan menggunakan teori Lakoff (1975). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiolinguistik dan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data penelitian ini diambil dari 8 video dari Youtube TheEllenShow yang berisi interupsi dan fitur linguistik pada percakapan sesama jenis dan lawan jenis berdasarkan tema tentang film. Disamping itu, teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan 52 data tujuan interupsi dan fitur linguistik di dalam percakapan sesama jenis dan lawan jenis. Berdasarkan tujuan interupsi dalam percakapan lawan jenis, ditemukan bahwa peserta cenderung menggunakan interupsi disruptive dibandingkan interupsi cooperative. Ini bisa dilihat dengan tujuan pergantian giliran bicara (floor taking) yang ditemukan sebanyak 8 data. Sebaliknya, pada percakapan sesama jenis, peserta lebih cenderung menggunakan interupsi cooperative dibandingkan interupsi disruptive karena peserta menggunakan hampir semua sub-kategori interupsi cooperative dan cenderung menggunakan jenis interupsi yang masing-masing menunjukkan kesepakatan dan persetujuan sebanyak 5 data. Berdasarkan fitur linguistik dalam percakapan sesama jenis, ditemukan 3 kategori fitur linguistik. Lexical hedge merupakan fitur linguistik yang paling sering digunakan sebanyak 4 data. Sedangkan berdasarkan fitur linguistik dalam percakapan lawan jenis, ditemukan 2 sub-kategori yaitu teasing dan report talk. Teasing merupakan fitur linguistik yang paling sering digunakan sebanyak 8 data. Dari hasil penelitan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam percakapan lawan jenis dan sesama jenis, peserta mempunyai cara yang berbeda dalam menggunakan interupsi dan fitur linguistik melalui ucapan mereka untuk mencapai tujuannya dalam percakapan. Di dalam percakapan lawan jenis, laki-laki sering menggunakan disruptive untuk menunjukan kekuatan mereka dengan cara mendominasi percakapan yang dibuktikan dengan penggunaan fitur linguistik yaitu teasing and report talk untuk menginterupsi. Sedangkan di percakapan sesama jenis, perempuan lebih kooperatif karena mereka mempunyai tujuan untuk menciptakan perckapan yang nyaman dan menunjukan apresiasi terhadap lawan bicara dengan menggunakan fitur linguistic yaitu, lexical hedges, intensifiers and empty stress untuk menginterupsi.

This research entitled “The Analysis of Interruption in Same Sex and Different Sex Conversations in Ellen Degeneres Show”. It aims to find out the purposes of interruption by using Murata (1994) and Zhao & Gantz (2003) theories and to analyze the linguistic features employed in interruptions in same sex and different sex conversation by utilizing Tannen (1990) and Lakoff (1975) theories. This research uses a sociolinguistic approach and qualitative method in analyzing the data. Additionally, the data of this research are taken from eight videos of TheEllenShow Youtube channel containing interruptions and linguistic features in same sex and different sex conversations based on a movie theme. Besides, the research uses the purposive sampling technique. Based on the result of this research, 52 data of purposes of interruption and linguistic features in same sex and different sex conversations are found. According to the purposes of interruption in different sex conversation, the participants are more likely to use disruptive interruption than cooperative interruption. This can be seen from floor taking by 8 data. On the contrary, in same sex conversations, the participants are more likely to use cooperative interruption than disruptive interruption because they almost use all sub-categories in cooperative interruption and are likely to use types of interruptions showing understanding and agreement by 5 data, respectively. In addition, in same sex conversation, 3 types of linguistic features  are found in the interruptions. A lexical hedge is the most frequently used linguistic feature by 4 data. Whereas, in different sex conversations, the participants use two types of linguistic features, 
namely teasing and report talk. Teasing is the most frequently used linguistic feature by 8 data. Based on the result, it can be concluded that in same sex and different sex conversations, the participants have different ways of employing interruptions and linguistic features through their utterances for achieving their purposes in conversations. In different sex conversations, the men are more likely to use disruptive interruption because they interrupt women in order to show their power to dominate the conversation. It can be seen when they dominate the conversations through the use of linguistic features by showing teasing and report talk to interrupt. While in same sex conversations, the women are more cooperative in order to create comfortable atmosphere and to make intimate conversations. In addition, they also show their appreciation to the interlocutor by showing lexical hedges, intensifiers and empty stress to interrupt.
