Penelitian ini berjudul “Foreground Entailment of Verbal Humor Applied 
by Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2 Movie”. Fokus penelitian ini terletak di penggunaan 
teknik humor verbal dan foreground entailment dalam menjabarkan tuturan humor
verbal dari Wade Wilson selaku tokoh utama dalam film Deadpool 2. Penelitian ini 
memiliki dua tujuan yaitu: (1) mengetahui teknik dari setiap tuturan humor verbal
dari Wade Wilson dalam film Deadpool 2 berdasarkan teori dari Berger tentang 
teknik humor verbal; (2) menjelaskan bagaimana foreground entailment
menjabarkan tuturan humor verbal dari Wade Wilson dalam film Deadpool 2 
berdasarkan teori dari Yule tentang foreground entailment. Penelitian ini 
menggunakan dasar metode deskriptif-kualitatif dengan film Deadpool 2 sebagai 
sumber datanya. Tahapan penelitian yang dilakukan diantaranya: mengidentifikasi 
teknik dari setiap data yang dikuatkan beberapa faktor, menitikberatkan pada 
beberapa foreground entailment dari setiap data untuk melihat bagian terganjil yang 
berpotensi menimbulkan gelak tawa, dan menyimpulkan mekanisme penciptaan 
humor verbal yang digunakan oleh Wade Wilson. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan 
ada empat belas dari lima belas teknik dengan total 73 data humor verbal dengan 
rincian teknik: 21.9% allusion, 2.7% bombast, 2.7% definition, 1.4% exaggeration, 
4.1% facetiousness, 0% infantilism, 8.2% insult, 13.7% irony, 1.4% literalness,
13.7% misunderstanding, 5.5% pun, 5.5% repartee, 8.2% ridicule, 6.9% sarcasm,
dan 4.1% satire. Untuk foreground entailmentnya, teori ini menghasilkan total 150
poin penempatan keganjilan dengan rincian elemen: 11.3% subjek, 17.3% kata 
kerja, 14% objek, 18.7% komplemen, 2.7% kata sifat, 8% kata keterangan, dan 28% 
keseluruhan tuturan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa Wade Wilson menggunakan hampir 
seluruh teknik humor verbal dari Berger dengan diperkuat beberapa faktor dan 
muncul dalam beragam frekuensi sehingga menempatkan teknik allusion sebagai
teknik yang paling sering digunakan dan teknik infantilism sebagai teknik yang 
paling terabaikan. Wade Wilson juga menjabarkan setiap data humor verbal dengan 
menitikberatkan pada dua sampai tiga elemen tuturan sebagai foreground 
entailment sehingga menempatkan elemen keseluruhan tuturan sebagai mayoritas 
dan elemen kata sifat sebagai minoritas.

This research is entitled “Foreground Entailment of Verbal Humor Applied 
by Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2 Movie”. It focuses on the use of verbal humor 
technique and the employment of foreground entailment to elaborate the verbal 
humor applied by Wade Wilson as the main character in Deadpool 2 movie. This 
research aims two objectives that are: (1) to find out the technique of each verbal 
humor applied by Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2 movie based on Berger’s theory 
about technique of verbal humor; (2) to explain how foreground entailment reveals 
the verbal humor applied by Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2 movie based on Yule’s 
theory about foreground entailment. This research takes descriptive-qualitative as 
the basic method and Deadpool 2 movie as the data source. The research is done 
by: identifying the technique of each datum supported by some related factors as 
the substantiation, pointing some followed foreground entailments to see the most 
incongruous part that can potentially evoke the datum’s humorous effect, and 
concluding the mechanism utilized by Wade Wilson while creating verbal humor.
The research’s result demonstrates that there are fourteen techniques out of fifteen 
with 73 verbal humor data in total which techniques are: allusion is 21.9%, bombast 
is 2.7%, definition is 2.7%, exaggeration is 1.4%, facetiousness is 4.1%, infantilism 
is 0%, insult is 8.2%, irony is 13.7%, literalness is 1.4%, misunderstanding is 
13.7%, pun is 5.5%, repartee is 5.5%, ridicule is 8.2%, sarcasm is 6.9%, and satire 
is 4.1%. In terms of foreground entailment, it serves 150 points that place the 
incongruity within the elements of: subject is 11.3%, verb is 17.3%, object is 14%, 
complement is 18.7%, adjective is 2.7%, adverb is 8%, and whole-utterance is 28%. 
The conclusion states that Wade Wilson uses most of Berger’s verbal humor 
techniques in this research that are substantiated by some related factors and 
appeared in various frequency to place the allusion as the most used technique and 
infantilism as the most ignored one. In terms of foreground entailment, Wade 
Wilson reveals each verbal humor datum by pointing two until three elements as 
the foregrounded entailment that place the whole-utterance element as the majority 
and the adjective element as the minority.
