Waria dan Pesantren (Studi Tentang Persepsi Diri dan Makna Religiusitas Waria di Pesantren Al-Fatah, Jagalan, Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta)

Tulisan ini ditunjukkan untuk mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan persepsi waria yang nyantri di Pesantren Waria Al-Fatah tentang dirinya dan makna religiusitas atau keberagamaanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik analisis data interaktif atau on going analysis. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Sampel diambil secara purposif (purposive sampling). Terdapat delapan informan dalam penelitian ini yang terdiri atas empat santri waria, satu waria pimpinan pesantren, dua pengajar pesantren dan satu warga masyarakat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi diri waria di Pesantren Al-Fatah meyakini bahwa menjadi waria merupakan pemberian Tuhan, bukan sesuatu yang sengaja dilakukan. Mereka percaya bahwa mereka adalah salah satu ciptaan Tuhan yang unik karena terlahir dengan jiwa perempuan akan tetapi memiliki fisik seperti laki-laki. Bagi mereka mengakui hidup sebagai waria merupakan kejujuran atas jati diri mereka, Bagi waria di Pesantren Al-Fatah memaknai agama merupakan sebuah pegangan hidup karena ajaran agama mengajarkan tentang kebaikan, mengingatkan manusia untuk selalu berbuat baik kepada sesama ciptaan Tuhan. Bagi pesantren apapun pilihan busana waria dalam beribadah merupakan hak individu yang terpenting waria mendapatkan tempat yang aman untuk beribadah. Kata kunci: persepsi diri, religiusitas, waria

This paper is shown to reveal and describe the perceptions of transgender women in Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School about themselves and the meaning of their religiosity or religion. This study uses qualitative methods with interactive data analysis techniques or on-going analysis. The data collection technique was done by means of interviews, observation and documentation. The sample was taken by purposive (purposive sampling). There were eight informants in this study consisting of four waria santri, one waria who led the pesantren, two pesantren teachers and one community member. The results of this study indicate that the self-perception of transgender women in Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School believes that being a transgender is a gift from God, not something that is done intentionally. They believe that they are one of God's unique creations because they are born with a female soul but have a physical appearance like that of a man. For them, admitting that life as a transvestite is honesty about their identity, For transgender women in Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School, interpreting religion is a way of life because religious teachings teach about goodness, reminding humans to always do good to fellow God's creations. For pesantren, any choice of clothing for transgender women in worship is an individual right. The most important thing is that transgender women get a safe place to worship.
