Foto merupakan salah satu media yang berpotensi untuk mempengaruhi khalayaknya, karena kekuatan dan kemampuannya menjangkau banyak segmen sosial. Foto selalu mempengaruhi dan membentuk masyarakat berdasarkan muatan pesan dibaliknya, tanpa pernah berlaku sebaliknya. Kritik yang muncul terhadap perspektif tersebut didasarkan atas argumen bagaimana potret dari masyarakat itu dibuat. Foto juga merupakan fenomena sosial, psikologi dan estetika yang kompleks. sama halnya dengan artian foto merupakan media informasi, tapi dalam kenyataannya foto juga memiliki fungsi sosial, yaitu fungsi penyampaian pesan sosial. Fotografi sendiri terdapat banyak macam genre, sebagai contoh fotografi jalanan. Fotografi jalanan yang diteliti penulis adalah fotografi jalanan human interest. Fotografi jalanan sangat erat hubungannya dengan fotografi jurnalistik. Pada foto jalanan ini mengandung makna yang humanis, membahas bagaimana keadaan realitas kondisi jalanan dari segi arsitektur, kondisi sosial, dan masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah semiotik. Cultural studies digunakan untuk mengkaji relevansi nilai-nilai yang terkandung pada foto dengan realita yang menjadi subyek fotografi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jika foto-foto yang diteliti memiliki nilai-nilai yang relevan dengan masyarakat yang menjadi subyek fotografi. Tema foto human interest membuat makna yang terdapat dalam foto mampu dijelaskan secara konotasi dan denotasi untuk kesesuaian maksud sebenarnya dari foto dengan kenyataan yang terjadi di masyarakat.

Photo is a medium that has the potential to influence audiences, because of its strength and ability to reach many social segments. photos always influence and shape society based on the content of the message behind them, without ever acting the other way around. The criticism that appears against this perspective is based on arguments on how the portrait of society is made. Photos are also a complex social, psychological and aesthetic phenomenon. Likewise, the meaning of photos is a media of information, but in reality photos also have a social function, namely the function of delivering social messages. Photography itself has many kinds of genres, for example street photography. The street photography that the writer examines is human interest street photography. Street photography is closely related to journalistic photography. In this street photo contains a humanist meaning, discusses how the reality of street conditions is in terms of architecture, social conditions, and society. The research method used is semiotics. Cultural studies are used to examine the relevance of the values contained in photographs with the realities that are the subject of photography. The results showed that the photographs under study have values that are relevant to the people who are the subject of photography. The theme of human interest photos makes the meaning contained in the photo able to be explained in connotation and denotation for the suitability of the actual intent of the photo with the reality that occurs in society.
