Penelitian ini berjudul “Murphy’s Needs Based on Maslow Hierarchy of Needs in The Killing of a Sacred Deer Film by Yorgos Lanthimos”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan hierarki kebutuhan (teori Abraham Maslow) yang mempengaruhi Murphy untuk membunuh anaknya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Data penelitian didapatkan dari data primer berupa film The Killing of a Sacred Deer dan data sekunder berupa kajian pustaka dan sumber-sumber lain yang mendukung penelitian ini. Selain itu, pembahasan penelitian dibagi menjadi tiga bagian sesuai dengan empat dari lima tingkat kebutuhan menurut teori kebutuhan hierarki. Bagian pertama menjelaskan bagaimana Murphy memenuhi kebutuhan hirarkinya. Penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa empat kebutuhan tersebut adalah kebutuhan fisiologis, kebutuhan keamanan, kebutuhan kasih sayang dan rasa memiliki, dan kebutuhan penghargaan. Bagian kedua menjelaskan kehancuran dari kebutuhan keamanan Murphy. Penelitian ini menjelaskan bagaimana kebutuhan keamanan Murphy hancur karna beberapa aspek yaitu; Martin menguntit Murphy, ibu Martin, jatuhnya Bob, penjelasan pertama tentang kutukan, dan jatuhnya Kim. Bagian ketiga menjelaskan pemenuhan kembali akan kebutuhan keamanan Murphy. Penelitian ini menjelaskan bagaimana pemenuhan kembali akan kebutuhan keamanan Murphy dalam bentuk keributan Murphy dengan Martin, penculikan Martin, dan pengorbanan rusa suci. Hasil dari penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa kebutuhan akan keamanan Murphy hancur disebabkan oleh Martin yang secara terus menerus meneror keluarga Murphy. Pada akhirnya, Murphy harus membunuh anak nya sendiri dalam rangka pemenuhan kebutuhan akan keamanan diri.

This research is entitled “Murphy’s Needs Based on Maslow Hierarchy of Needs in The Killing of a Sacred Deer Film by Yorgos Lanthimos”. It aims to explain the hierarchy of needs (Maslow’s theory) that affect Murphy to kill his son. This research uses qualitative method with psychological approach to literature. The research data is taken from primary data in the form of the film “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and also secondary data in the form of literatures and sources that support the research. Furthermore, the discussion of this study is divided into three main parts which correspond with four out of the five needs in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. The first part explains how Murphy satisfies all of his basic needs. The analysis explains four Murphy’s needs which are physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, and esteem needs. The second part explains the ruination of Murphy’s safety needs. The analysis explains how Murphy’s safety needs are ruined because of a few aspects which are Martin Stalks Murphy, Martin’s mother, the falling of Bob, first reveal of the cursed, and the falling of Kim. The third part explains re-satisfaction of Murphy’s needs. The analysis explains how Murphy re-satisfies his safety needs in the form of Murphy’s confrontation with Martin, kidnapping Martin, and the killing of a sacred deer. The research result concludes that Murphy’s safety needs are broken because of Martin who over and over terrorizes his family. Murphy urges to kill his own son in order to re-satisfy his safety needs.
