Gastric ulcer yang disebabkan etanol-HCl menyebabkan kerusakan pada mukosa lambung. Lengkuas dan kunyit berpotensi sebagai gastroprotektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas gastroprotektif dari kombinasi ekstrak etanol lengkuas dan kunyit dibandingkan ekstrak tunggalnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan 20 ekor tikus wistar jantan yang dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok, masing-masing diberikan Tween 80 1%, ranitidin 50mg/kgBB, ekstrak etanol lengkuas, kunyit dan kombinasi 100mg/200gBB. Perlakuan diberikan secara per oral selama 6 hari. Pada hari ke-7, semua kelompok diinduksi dengan etanol-HCl (1:1) 0,2ml/25gBB. Empat jam kemudian tikus dikorbankan dan dibedah serta diambil lambungnya. Indeks ulkus dihitung dari rata-rata skor ulkus melalui pengamatan mikroskopik. Skor ulkus dianalisis dengan uji statistik Saphiro-Wilk dilanjutkan uji Kruskal-Wallis dan uji Man-Whitney. Gambaran histopatologi pada kelompok perlakuan menunjukkan perbaikan ulkus dan pengurangan infiltrasi sel radang neutrofil.  Indeks ulkus  kelompok perlakuan masing-masing sebesar 3 ; 2,5 ; 2,25 ; 2. Namun dari hasil statistik menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan diantara kelompok perlakuan tersebut. Kombinasi ekstrak etanol lengkuas dan kunyit memiliki efek gastroprotektif, namun tidak lebih baik dibandingkan dengan ekstrak tunggalnya.

Gastric ulcers caused by ethanol-HCl cause gastric mucosal damage. Galangal and turmeric have the potential gastroprotective activity. This study aims to determine the gastroprotective activity of a combination of galangal and turmeric ethanol extracts compared to the single extract based on histopathological parameters and ulcer index. This study used 20 male wistar rats which were divided into 5 groups,  each group was given a Tween 80 1%, ranitidine 50mg/kgBW, ethanol extract of galangal, turmeric and a combined 100mg/ 200gBW. Treatment were given orally for 6 days. On the 7th day, all groups were induced by ethanol-HCl (1: 1) 0.2 ml/25 gBW. Four hours later the rat was sacrificed and dissected and taken the gastric. Ulcer index is calculated from the average ulcer score through microscopic observations. Ulcer scores were analyzed with the Saphiro-Wilk statistical test followed by the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Man-Whitney test. Histopathological in the treatment group showed ulcer repair and reduction of neutrophil inflammatory cell infiltration. Ulcer index for each treatment group was 3; 2.5; 2.25; 2. However, the statistical results show that there were no significant differences between the treatment groups. The combination of galangal and turmeric ethanol extract has a gastroprotective effect, but it is no better than its single extract.
