PENGORBANAN NEGARA BERKEMBANG PADA INDUSTRI FASHION GLOBAL (ANALISIS FILM “THE TRUE COST”)

Artikel ini mendeskripsikan pengorbanan yang telah dilakukan oleh negara berkembang pada rantai industri fashion global yang digambarkan dalam film dokumenter “The true cost” (2015). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa permintaan harga yang rendah dari retailer fashion global membuat pabrik garmen di negara berkembang harus menekan biaya produksi. Implikasi yang muncul dari penekanan biaya produksi adalah munculnya eksploitasi karena rendahnya upah buruh, kurangnya perhatian terhadap kesejahteraan buruh, serta keselamatan kerja dan fasilitas buruh kurang diperhatikan. Kondisi ini menimbulkan konfrontasi buruh untuk menuntut haknya, akan tetapi buruh yang didominasi perempuan justru memperoleh tindakan represif berupa kekerasan yang menimbulkan jatuhnya korban jiwa. Negara berkembang juga harus menanggung dampak negatif industrialisasi berupa pencemaran lingkungan dan munculnya masalah-masalah kesehatan.

The article describes the sarcrifies of developing countries in the global fashion industry chain depicted in the documentary “The true cost”. The result of this research shows that the low price demands from global fashion retailers make garment factories in developing countries have to reduce production costs. The implications from the suppression of production costs are the emergence of exploitation due to low labor costs, lack of attention to labor welfare, work safety and labor facilities are also lack of attention. The conditions lead to confrontation of workers to claim their rights, but the worker who dominated by women actually get a repressive actions such as the violence that cause the victim. The developing countries were also guarantee the negative effects of industrialization such as environmental pollution and the problems of health's issues.
